Job summary

Cletech Recruitment is seeking a qualified Turner to join our engineering team in KwaZulu-Natal. The successful candidate will perform precision machining, conduct planned and unplanned maintenance, and manufacture or modify components to spec.

Responsibilities include operating lathes and milling machines, reading drawings, and maintaining safety and workmanship standards in a busy workshop environment.

Qualifications

• Qualified Turner with a recognised Trade Test.
• Grade 12 / Matric and N2 in mechanical trade.
• Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings.
• Practical experience with lathes, milling machines and grinders.

Job description

Role Overview

An established organisation is seeking a qualified and experienced Turner to join its engineering team in KwaZulu-Natal. The successful candidate will be responsible for precision machining, planned and unplanned maintenance, mechanical repairs and the manufacture and modification of components.

Key Responsibilities

• Attend to planned and unplanned maintenance on machinery.
• Respond to breakdowns with urgency and perform mechanical repairs.
• Participate in standby duties as required.
• Machine components from technical drawings and supplied samples.
• Perform mechanical assembly of new equipment manufactured in the machine shop.
• Modify and improve existing plant and equipment to optimise capacity and performance.
• Conduct daily equipment checks and inspections within the assigned area.
• Operate lathes, milling machines, surface grinders and other workshop machinery.
• Accurately record completed work on job cards and planned maintenance schedules.
• Report mechanical issues affecting lathes and milling machines.
• Perform machining work to tolerances of 0.01 mm when required.
• Complete turning, milling, V-thread screw cutting, Acme and square thread cutting.
• Perform surface grinding and basic fabrication work.
• Conduct safety inspections on plant and equipment.
• Maintain high standards of safety and housekeeping.

Minimum Requirements

• Grade 12 / Matric.
• N2 qualification or equivalent theoretical training in the mechanical trade.
• Qualified Turner with a recognised Trade Test.
• Practical experience operating lathes, milling machines and other workshop machinery.
• Ability to read and interpret mechanical and technical drawings.
• Sound knowledge of machining practices, tolerances and materials.
• Ability to communicate effective in English.
• Willingness to perform standby duties and attend breakdowns when required.
