Job description

Working as part of a team of 5, this manual role involves the day-to-day maintenance of the Victorian trunk sewer network in London. Responsibilities include routine maintenance, investigations, and safety cover within an area covering North and East London. This safety-focused role requires close teamwork.

What you’ll be doing as a Trunk Sewer Technician
  • Mandatory work in confined spaces (CP2 confined space rescue qualification required), at heights, and lifting heavy loads.
  • Physical maintenance of the sewer network and assets such as penstock gates.
  • Operation of plant and equipment.
  • Cleaning, basic maintenance, and fault-finding.

Working hours are from 6:30 am to 3:45 pm, with 1 week out of 5 on night shift from 9:00 pm to 5:30 am. Participation in an out-of-hours standby rota is required, with additional pay.

Base location

East and North London.

What you should bring to the role
  • Experience in manual labour roles capable of performing all tasks.
  • Knowledge of drainage and a mechanical background is advantageous.
  • Physical fitness and comfort working in water, at heights, and in confined sewer spaces. A pre-employment medical is required.
  • Must be clean-shaven and weigh less than 110kg due to safety equipment.
  • Willingness to work outdoors and in confined spaces year-round.
  • Full manual UK driving license is essential; a 7.5t license is desirable.
