Overview
We are Hiring: Truck Mechanical Supervisor
The Truck Mechanical Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the maintenance, repair, and servicing of the company’s fleet of trucks and heavy-duty vehicles. This role ensures all vehicles are maintained to the highest standards of safety, reliability, and regulatory compliance while managing a team of mechanics and workshop staff.
Responsibilities
- Supervision & Leadership: Lead, guide, and supervise a team of diesel mechanics, apprentices, and workshop staff. Allocate daily tasks and monitor performance to ensure timely completion of repairs and maintenance.
- Maintenance & Repairs: Oversee diagnostics, servicing, and repairs of heavy-duty trucks, trailers, and related equipment. Ensure adherence to preventative maintenance schedules and OEM specifications. Troubleshoot complex mechanical and electrical issues.
- Compliance & Safety: Ensure all repairs and maintenance activities comply with health, safety, and environmental regulations. Maintain accurate records of inspections, repairs, and parts usage. Enforce adherence to company policies and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Inventory & Procurement: Manage workshop tools, equipment, and spare parts inventory. Liaise with suppliers for parts procurement and negotiate pricing.
- Reporting & Administration: Prepare maintenance reports, cost analyses, and vehicle performance summaries. Assist in budgeting for repairs, maintenance, and capital expenditures.
- Training & Development: Train and mentor junior mechanics and apprentices. Stay updated on new technologies, tools, and industry best practices.
What We’re Looking For
Qualifications & Experience
- Education: Grade 12 (Matric) or equivalent. Trade Test Certificate as a Diesel Mechanic (essential). Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or Fleet Management (advantageous).
- Experience: Minimum 5 years’ experience in truck or heavy-duty vehicle maintenance. At least 2 years in a supervisory or team-lead role within a workshop environment.
- Skills & Competencies: Strong leadership and people management abilities. Advanced knowledge of truck mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems. Excellent problem-solving and diagnostic skills. Proficient in maintenance management software and Microsoft Office. Strong communication, planning, and organisational skills.

- Fleet uptime and vehicle availability.

- Cost control on repairs and parts.
- Compliance with safety and regulatory standards.
Working Conditions
Workshop and field-based role with occasional travel to breakdown sites. May require overtime, weekend, or after-hours work during emergencies.
