Trim Buyer (Textile & Clothing Manufacturing) – Newcastle

An opportunity for an experienced TRIM BUYER (TEXTILE & CLOTHING MANUFACTURING) is required for permanent employment based in Newcastle (Amajuba District Municipality). The Trim Buyer is responsible for sourcing, purchasing, and managing trims and accessories needed for garment production. The role involves identifying suppliers, negotiating prices, maintaining stock levels, and ensuring that all trims meet the company's quality standards and production timelines.

Salary: Market related basic (available / negotiable) + 13th Cheque.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  1. Sourcing and Procurement: Identify, evaluate, and select suppliers for trims (e.g., buttons, zippers, labels, threads, etc.) that align with design and quality standards. Negotiate prices, terms, and delivery timelines to ensure cost-effective procurement.
  2. Quality Control: Inspect samples and bulk orders to confirm compliance with specifications and quality standards. Address quality issues or discrepancies with suppliers promptly.
  3. Inventory Management: Maintain appropriate stock levels to avoid shortages or overstocking, ensuring efficient use of storage space and budget control. Forecast trim requirements based on production schedules and projected orders.
  4. Supplier Relationship Management: Establish and maintain positive relationships with local and international suppliers. Assess and ensure the reliability, reputation, and quality offered by suppliers.
  5. Collaboration: Work closely with design, production, and patternmaking teams to ensure trims align with garment specifications. Communicate with warehouse and logistics staff to ensure smooth delivery and distribution processes.
  6. Cost Analysis and Budgeting: Analyze cost implications and ensure adherence to the budget for each project. Prepare cost breakdowns and identify areas for potential savings.
  7. Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate records of purchase orders, supplier agreements, and inventory data. Generate regular reports for the management team, including cost analysis, market trends, and inventory status.
  8. Market Research: Keep abreast of new trends and innovations in trims, fabrics, and accessories within the textile and clothing industry.
Requirements:
  1. Relevant qualification in Procurement, Supply Chain Management, or Fashion / Clothing Technology.
  2. Additional training or courses in Business Management or Materials Management is advantageous.
  3. Minimum 3-5 years of experience in a purchasing / procurement role, preferably in the textile, clothing, or fashion industry.
  4. Demonstrated experience in sourcing and managing trims and accessories.
  5. Computer literacy (Microsoft Office, relevant procurement systems).
Skills:
  1. Strong negotiation skills and ability to manage supplier contracts effectively.
  2. Proficiency in inventory systems and software.
  3. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to liaise with suppliers and internal teams.
