About this role

The Treasury Manager is responsible for managing the organisation's liquidity, funding strategy, banking relationships, and financial risk exposures. In the context of a Renewable Energy IPP, the role is essential for supporting project finance structures, maintaining compliance with loan covenants, and ensuring the availability of funds across operational and development-stage projects.

Duties and responsibilities

Cash & Liquidity Management

  • Monitor daily cash positions and forecasts across project SPVs and the group.
  • Manage intra-group funding flows and working capital.
  • Ensure sufficient liquidity to meet operational, CAPEX, and debt obligations.

Banking & Treasury Operations

  • Maintain and enhance banking relationships.
  • Oversee opening, management, and control of multiple project bank accounts.
  • Implement and manage online banking platforms and authorisation protocols.
  • Negotiate and manage working capital facilities and revolving credit facilities to support the growth of the group

Debt & Investment Management

  • Oversee debt drawdowns for project financing and ensure compliance with financial agreements.
  • Monitor covenant compliance and manage lender reporting schedules.
  • Assist in managing surplus funds in accordance with investment policies.
  • Manage a large corporate finance facility with associated bespoke covenants and compliance reporting
  • Manage applications for increases in accessible facilities and optimising capital structure of the group

Risk Management & Compliance

  • Identify and mitigate foreign exchange, interest rate, and counterparty risks.
  • Ensure compliance with treasury policies, internal controls, and regulatory requirements (e.g. SARB reporting).
  • Collaborate with legal and project finance teams on treasury clauses in loan agreements and PPAs.

Insurance

  • Managing the group-wide insurance portfolio, in collaboration with internal stakeholders and insurance brokers.
  • Conducting the annual renewal process.
  • Identify new insurable risks within the Business and make recommendations for effective management of the risks.
  • Administration of insurance claims, from notification process to claims completion and pay-out.
  • Resolve insurance queries from departments and third parties.
  • Handling any insurance matters relating to the business of the organisation as required.

Reporting & Systems

  • Prepare monthly treasury reports, including cash flow forecasting, loan schedules, and covenant dashboards.
  • Maintain accurate records of all treasury transactions.
  • Support audits and due diligence processes for new projects or refinancing.

Strategic & Cross-functional Support

  • Partner with Asset Management, Accounting, and Legal teams during project development and financing.
  • Provide strategic input on treasury implications of new markets, joint ventures, and project bids.

Required skills and education background

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, Accounting, Economics, or related field.
  • Postgraduate qualification or professional certification (e.g., CTP, CFA, CA(SA)) is advantageous.
  • 6–10 years of treasury experience, ideally within project finance, energy, or infrastructure sectors.
  • Experience with multi-entity treasury operations and FX management in a multinational or regional context.
  • Strong analytical and financial modelling skills.
  • Excellent understanding of project finance structures and debt instruments.
  • High attention to detail and ability to manage multiple cash flows across entities.
  • Proficiency in treasury and ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Kyriba, or similar).
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
