Transport Operations Manager (JB)
Umhlanga, Durban
R60 per month CTC
Contract: 6-month fixed-term contract (potential for permanency based on performance)

A logistics company based in Durban is seeking a Transport Operations Manager to oversee fleet and transport operations.

This role involves managing daily transport activities, ensuring efficiency, optimizing costs, and driving business growth through strategic client engagement.

Minimum Requirements:

  1. Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Transportation, or a related field (preferred).
  2. Proven experience in transport or fleet management, with expertise in supervising drivers and overseeing vehicle maintenance.
  3. Strong knowledge of vehicle compliance, licensing requirements, and road safety regulations.
  4. Demonstrated ability in business development, client acquisition, and rate negotiations.
  5. Excellent leadership, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  6. Proficiency in fleet management software and Microsoft Office Suite.
  7. Ability to work under pressure, manage multiple tasks, and optimize transportation costs.
  8. Own vehicle required (fuel reimbursement provided).

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Fleet Management: Oversee vehicle maintenance, repairs, and compliance with safety and environmental regulations.
  2. Driver Supervision: Manage drivers, ensuring adherence to schedules, routes, and safety protocols.
  3. Route Optimization: Plan and adjust transport routes for efficiency and cost reduction.
  4. Fuel Tracking & Cost Control: Monitor diesel consumption and implement fuel-saving strategies.
  5. Compliance & Documentation: Ensure all driver and vehicle licenses are up to date, with proper documentation for deliveries.
  6. Budget Management: Assist in controlling fleet and operational costs while maintaining service quality.
  7. Customer Engagement: Work closely with clients to ensure satisfaction and identify business opportunities.
  8. Business Development: Secure new contracts, negotiate competitive rates, and expand client networks.
  9. Reporting & Data Management: Maintain detailed records of vehicle performance, expenses, and operational efficiency.
  10. Health & Safety: Ensure adherence to transport and logistics health and safety regulations.
  11. Insurance & Claims Management: Assist in handling vehicle insurance claims and related documentation.
