Introduction
We are a leading freight and logistics company based in Gauteng, currently seeking an experienced Operations Manager.
As a Transport Operations Manager, you will be responsible for the efficient and effective running of operations to service our customers diligently.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Plan, implement, and maintain operational activities of applicable contracts in accordance with company policies, goals, and strategic objectives.
- Monitor internal operational costs, fleet utilization, fleet downtime, and resources to achieve budgeting results and other financial criteria including PBIT and NWC (Net Working Capital).
- Implement and monitor all operational activities to ensure compliance with operational protocols, legal, health, safety, and other regulatory requirements.
- Optimize routes and fleet utilization.
- Ensure achievement of agreed KPIs.
- Ensure all business sub-systems (Operations, Marketing, and Administration) are well coordinated.
- Ensure availability of fleet for preventative maintenance and that such maintenance is executed to standard and timely.
- Maintain the company brand image.
- Ensure resource, system, and process optimization and alignment.
- Ensure accuracy, completeness, and authorization of the wage sheet.
- Implement performance management, learning and development, succession, and recruitment processes for continuous improvement.
- Adhere to transformation plans through active involvement in recruitment, promotion, succession, and action plans.
- Prepare for disciplinary inquiries and grievances, ensuring consistent application aligned with company procedures, involving HR where necessary.
- Create and maintain a work environment promoting diversity, open communication, fairness, and consistency.
- Proactively address issues impacting employee morale, retention, and performance.
- Implement and promote effective employee engagement and communication.
- Ensure document control processes and templates are in place.
- Coach, mentor, and counsel team members towards performance improvement and leadership development.
- Conduct monthly health checks and facilitate continuous improvement.
- Lead by example in behavioral actions, ensuring adherence to company values.
- Monitor and correct subordinate behavior as needed.
- Foster a risk-aware culture supporting risk mitigation activities.
- Implement and enforce risk protocols.
- Drive continuous performance improvement aligned with operational KPIs.
- Ensure customer satisfaction through adherence to delivery plans and strong client relationships.
- Support local corporate social investment projects aligned with company policies.
Desired Experience & Qualifications
- Matric / Grade 12.
- Relevant tertiary qualification in transportation, logistics, or business management.
- Minimum four years' experience in a transport management environment.
- Intermediate computer literacy (Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Knowledge of Monthly meetings, Mixtelematics, NBCRFLI main agreement, balanced scorecards, IDPs, workforce planning, project management, ISO, RTMS system, and audits.
- Driver's license and own vehicle.
- Ability to work reasonable overtime as operationally required.
