Transport Controller - Vereeniging
Job Description
Purpose: To manage a team of employees responsible for ensuring the roadworthiness and cleanliness of bakery trucks, and that they are ready on time for loading and deliveries according to scheduled times.
Main Objectives
- Ensure legal compliance and support OTIF deliveries by maintaining an appropriate number of clean, roadworthy trucks per route, aligned with hygiene standards (FSSC 22000), AARTO SOPs, and RACI matrix requirements.
- Ensure cost-effective bakery deliveries through detailed fleet expense tracking and monitoring, with timely action on identified gaps to minimize cents per kilometre.
- Guarantee roadworthy vehicles via management of preventative maintenance, ensuring annual "certificate of fitness" for each truck is obtained on time before expiry, in collaboration with the corporate bakery distribution team.
- Create a high-performing transport team through recruitment, training, coaching, and supervision of staff responsible for truck cleaning and maintenance, in line with the Premier Way.
- Prevent theft, protect fleet assets, and support cost-effective deliveries by ensuring trucks are fitted with vehicle monitoring systems through preferred suppliers.
- Minimize brand-related risks caused by accidents and incidents.
Qualification Requirements
- Matric or Equivalent – Essential
- Qualified Diesel Mechanic – Commercial Vehicles – Essential
- Diploma in Logistics or similar – Desirable
Experience Requirements
- Transport Controller / Fleet Manager role – 3-5 Years (Essential)
- Supervisory Experience – 3-5 Years (Essential)
