Job description

Red Ember Recruitment is seeking to hire a SAGE Certified Payroll Manager based in Johannesburg.

Responsibilities

  1. Maximizing the effectiveness and efficiency of payroll processing, procedures, and controls, including the streamlining and automation of processes.
  2. Leading, motivating, and managing the payroll team.
  3. Regularly monitor and assess/audit the integrity of payroll systems/rules/calculations and application of legislation.
  4. Conduct Payroll Reviews and ensure the accuracy of payments.
  5. Implementation of the remuneration policy, philosophy, and practices.
  6. Researching and benchmarking remuneration best practices.
  7. Reporting - Including statutory reporting, HR, Finance, Budget, and Payroll Reporting.
  8. Developing and reviewing Remuneration and Employee Benefits Policies and Procedures.
  9. Participating and managing Projects, including surveys, and reporting.
  10. Providing guidance and support on all remuneration and benefits-related matters.
  11. Management of retirement funds and insured benefits, medical aid scheme strategy, and policy and general remuneration practices.
  12. Development, implementation, and maintenance of remuneration and benefits systems.
  13. E-filing, E@syfiling, WCA submissions.
  14. Manage Payroll Administration and reconciliations.
  15. Reconciliation of employee's PAYE, SDL & UIF and any other legislative returns, tax issues, and any SARS queries.
  16. Assist with the preparations and reconciliation of all payroll, and third-party/vendor payments.
  17. Assist HR with equity reporting.
  18. Assistance with end-of-year processing and reconciliation including payment summaries - Financial Year-End.
  19. Prepare/write ad-hoc reports for business as and when required.
  20. Manage and Prepare bursary processing and reconciling on payroll.
  21. Prepare and submit annual reports to Paris.
  22. STATS SA Submissions.
  23. Preparation of the increase and bonus schedules, manage and reconcile inputs.
  24. Preparing Leave & Bonus provisions.
  25. Dealing with Auditors: Internal, External, Department of Labour and Bargaining councils.

Requirements

  1. Tertiary Qualification and/or relevant payroll-related qualification is essential.
  2. 10 years relevant experience of which at least 5 must be in a managerial role.
  3. Advanced Payroll Tax knowledge and experience in monthly and bi-annual submissions, tax issues and queries are essential.
  4. Solid financial acumen and knowledge of SAP Accounting software.
  5. Employment equity knowledge and experience.
  6. Extensive knowledge of Sage People Payroll software and all its different modules including ESS is essential.
  7. Advanced MS Office, particularly Advanced Excel is essential.
  8. In-depth working knowledge of relevant tax legislation, employment conditions, bargaining councils, and other relevant legislation.
  9. Experience in dealing with Expats Payroll.
  10. Experience and excellent knowledge in PAYE, SDL, UIF, WCA & RMA is essential.
