Job description

Role summary

Acting as a Trainee Accountant within the Altum Group, undertaking a range of accounting duties such as bookkeeping, performing bank and investment portfolio reconciliations and preparing some simple annual financial statements under direction from your designated superiors.

Key responsibilities

  1. Preparation of monthly and quarterly financial reporting in accordance with client deadlines.
  2. Assist with all aspects of accounting matters, including the preparation, reconciliation and proofing of investor reports, statutory financial statements and ad hoc investor requests.
  3. Assist with the completion of routine audit queries.
  4. Prepare periodic bank reconciliations and provide or source supporting documentation evidencing transactions.
  5. Maintain accurate records on AllVue / NavOne and Microsoft Excel working paper schedules for all aspects of bookkeeping.
  6. Assist in the preparation and reconciliation of periodic direct and indirect tax returns.
  7. For specific client entities, particularly those which own real estate assets, prepare and submit VAT and CIS returns and liaise with HMRC as necessary.
  8. Maintain and monitor task list to ensure completion on a timely basis, under supervision of your superior.
  9. Effectively manage workload, complete daily work and allocated project work as needed.
  10. Effectively communicate the status of workload to superiors as appropriate.
  11. Ensure accurate and timely recording of personal time in line with group procedures.
  12. Ensure time records are always up to date.
  13. Maintain confidentiality and security in terms of client affairs and papers.
  14. To develop and maintain good staff relations generally within the team and wider Company.
  15. To ensure that all work is conducted in accordance with Company internal procedures.
  16. To monitor your own performance against personal and development targets.
  17. To ensure compliance with the Company's professional conduct, quality and ethical standards.


Skills & Experience

  1. BCom Degree/ Diploma with Financial Accounting 3.
  2. Desire to learn and gather technical financial services knowledge through training.
  3. IT literacy and interpersonal skills are essential.
  4. Previous experience in either Capital Markets, Real Estate, Private Debt Funds or Private Equity Funds will be beneficial.
