Job summary

SMEC (an SJ Group company) Cape Town is seeking a Traffic Engineer to lead planning, analysis, and reporting on transport projects within a dynamic Roads & Highway group. The role involves integrated transport planning, transport modelling, and delivering technical outputs for multi-disciplinary teams in tight timelines.

The incumbent will mentor junior engineers, contribute to bid documents, and liaise with clients on complex projects across national and international scopes.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Engineering degree from an accredited university.
• Higher degree in Traffic Engineering and/or Transport Planning preferred.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to work effectively within a diverse, multi-disciplinary environment.
• Engineer: 3-6 years of experience in Transportation Engineering.

Responsibilities

• Complete technical duties including integrated transport planning, transport modelling, traffic analysis, road safety, and technical reporting.
• Check the technical analyses and reports of others.
• Contribute to local and international high-profile projects with tight timelines.
• Prepare and compile national and international multi-disciplinary bid documents.
• Manage meetings, present technical work, and liaise with clients.

Primary Position Purpose

Key Responsibilities

• Complete technical duties as directed by the Engineering Lead inclusive of integrated transport planning, transport modelling, traffic analysis, road safety, and technical reporting
• Responsible for checking of technical analyses and reports of others
• Familiarity with relevant software tools preferred (Visum, Vissim, Emme, Aimsun, Sidra, HCS)
• Contribute to local and international high-profile projects with tight timelines
• Understanding of local functional business technologies and markets
• Responsible for compiling national and international multi-disciplinary bid documents
• Manage meetings, present technical work, client liaison, etc.

Recommended Qualifications, Skills And Experience
