Technical Trader / Buyer

Overview

Our client, a leading supplier of goods and services to various industries across South Africa and other African countries, seeks to appoint a Technical Trader / Buyer. This role involves managing and processing all technical enquiries from sourcing to delivery and invoicing.

Responsibilities

1. Receive and analyze client enquiries, including specification matching.
2. Strategic sourcing of suppliers and products locally and internationally through market research, databases, and the internet.
3. Gather logistical and other necessary information to prepare accurate quotations, considering margins and foreign exchange rates.
4. Prepare and follow up on commercial proposals to secure orders, managing queries and negotiations.
5. Place and oversee orders, coordinating with logistics, warehouse, finance, and other departments for end-to-end delivery.
6. Maintain existing client relationships and develop new ones, which may involve local and international travel for supplier and client visits.
7. Report on profitability per job and department, along with other commercial metrics.
8. Perform any other duties relevant to the role.

Qualifications & Experience

1. Tertiary qualification such as a B.Com, National Diploma, or equivalent.
2. Minimum of 5 years experience as a Trader/Buyer, preferably in Oil and Gas, Mining, Construction, Renewable Energy, Plant and Machinery Hire, or General Procurement.
3. Knowledge of procuring spare parts, raw materials (e.g., steel, pipes, valves), lifting equipment, machinery, PPE, and consumables.
4. Ability to travel domestically and internationally.
5. Excellent communication skills in English; French proficiency is advantageous.
6. Strong organizational, multitasking, and problem-solving skills; adaptable and flexible.

Package & Remuneration

Salary ranges from R30,000 to R60,000 per month, depending on experience and potential.
