takealot.com, South Africa's leading online retailer, is looking for a highly talented Trade Strategist (Pricing) to join our team in Cape Town.

To support the Trade Optimisation team by delivering data-driven insights, analytical models, and strategic recommendations that improve business performance across key commercial levers such as pricing, promotions, forecasting, and portfolio/channel optimisation.

This position reports to the Head of Trade Optimization.

Your responsibilities will include:
  1. Analyze complex datasets to identify opportunities for improvement in your functional area.
  2. Build, validate, and maintain models to guide commercial decisions.
  3. Partner cross-functionally with Retail, Marketplace, Supply Chain, Promotions, Product, and other stakeholders to influence outcomes.
  4. Continuously improve tools, dashboards, and workflows that enable scalable analysis and performance monitoring.
  5. Translate business problems into structured analytical approaches and clearly communicate insights to non-technical audiences.
  6. Take ownership of initiatives, follow through on delivery, and adapt quickly to changing business priorities.
  7. Analyze list price structures to optimize margins while remaining competitive.
  8. Develop models that guide base pricing decisions across products and categories.
  9. Identify patterns in pricing elasticity and suggest price repositioning.
  10. Ability to deliver under deadlines and adapt to changing priorities.
  11. Show strong leadership potential — capable of influencing and mentoring others.
  12. Be committed to excellence and continuous improvement.
  13. Leverage AI in daily tasks to improve efficiency.
Qualification & Experience:
  1. Bachelor's degree (minimum) in a quantitative field such as Engineering, Data Science, Mathematics, Computer Science, Statistics, or Economics.
  2. Postgraduate studies are preferred.
  3. 3–5 years of experience in data analytics or relevant quantitative roles.
  4. Experience in pricing, promotions, demand planning, or retail environments is highly preferred.
  5. Management consulting experience is advantageous.

  2. Proficiency in SQL (Postgres, BigQuery).
  3. Experience with KNIME, R, or Python for data analysis and modeling.
  4. Ability to work with large datasets and interpret results.
  5. Understanding of retail dynamics and commercial levers.
