Qualifications

  • Qualified Toolmaker with 3 years experience required.
  • Matric/Grade 12 or equivalent educational qualification.
  • Experience in metal processing environment preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Repair and maintain press tools to minimize downtime.
  • Perform root cause analysis and resolve equipment faults.
  • Manufacture new tooling and ancillary spares.

Job description

Key Performance Areas (duties & Responsibilities)

  • Repair and maintain press tools
  • Routine servicing and regrinding of tools
  • Attend breakdowns, identify faults and problem solve at the press with minimal downtime to aid production
  • Evaluate each job and determine if it can be repaired in press or must be removed to Tool Room for essential maintenance and repair work
  • Estimate length of time required to complete a job and likely consequences of failure to complete work within required timescales
  • Identify and escalate any activity that has the potential to cause harm or damage
  • Report breakdown root causes, equipment faults and concerns to management
  • Perform root cause analysis and resolve problems
  • Ensure all work is undertaken to a high-quality standard and adheres to all quality standards
  • Identify spares requirements, upkeep of stock levels and log usage
  • Support new project tooling from commissioning stages through to start of production
  • Manufacture new tooling and ancillary spares to support production activity and customer deadlines
  • Document and update die history and other work records
  • Carry out engineering level changes to tools and modifications
  • Be actively involved in improvement activities to support the achievement of departmental and company objectives

Academic Qualifications

  • Matric/ Grade 12 or equivalent
  • Qualified Toolmaker with 3 years qualified experience

Experience

  • Computer skills will be advantageous
  • Previous experience in a metal processing environment will be advantageous
  • Understanding of manufacturing processes
  • Understanding of Lean manufacturing
  • Strong fault-finding skills.
  • KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
  • Must be able to read technical, electrical and mechanical drawings.
  • Must be able to work independently and be accountable for tasks assigned.
  • Ability to plan and priorities activities.
  • Ability to present data effectively.
  • Analytical skills.
  • Ability to work on own initiative
  • Must be qualified to work at heights.
  • Good communication skills with contractors / suppliers.
  • Good understanding of customer deliverables
