Therapy Services Coordinator

Introduction

A Vacancy exists for a Therapy Services Co-coordinator at the acute Rehabilitation Unit at Life New Kensington Clinic in Gauteng. The Life Rehabilitation at Life New Kensington Clinic Rehabilitation unit is part of an expanding network of rehabilitation units within Life Healthcare. The post holder will report to the Hospital Manager and will be expected to manage a professional team to deliver a quality and cost-effective rehabilitation service.

Critical Outputs
  • Coordination of the acute rehabilitation therapy service within an interdisciplinary team of rehabilitation professionals, including timely discharge planning.
  • Implementation of professional therapy services in accordance with Life Healthcare protocols and procedures.
  • Assessment, development, and maintenance of appropriate and intensive therapy programs.
  • Establishment and maintenance of a spasticity management programme.
  • Implementation of clinical outcome measures for rehabilitation.
  • Coordination of family and patient educational programs.
  • Providing patient and family support and effective communication as needed.
  • Liaison with funders, including timely reporting on patient progress and rehabilitation needs.
  • Implementation of growth strategies, including new products.
  • Management of the therapy team's performance according to company best practices.
  • Staffing of therapy services according to unit needs within budget requirements.
  • Staff development through mentoring and training.
  • Coordination of Continuing Professional Development programs.
  • Coordinate research initiatives.
  • Maintain close liaison with the rehabilitation nursing team to coordinate service delivery.
  • Create a unit culture that promotes business objectives, performance/results orientation, customer focus, and teamwork.
  • Drive quality improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with clinical, quality, efficiency standards, and operational requirements.
  • Foster constructive liaison between the rehabilitation unit and other hospital functions.
  • Promote and maintain sound relationships with referral sources and stakeholders in the field of Rehabilitation.
  • Participate actively in the national therapy management forum.
Requirements
  • Degree in any of the therapy professions.
  • Current registration with the appropriate body, e.g., HPCSA.
  • At least 5 years of experience in the rehabilitation field and management of multidisciplinary teams.
  • Experience in the private funder environment is advantageous.
  • Strong leadership qualities, interpersonal skills, vision, and tenacity to develop the rehabilitation function into a strategic advantage.
