Job summary

Charisma Healthcare Solutions is seeking a Theatre Enrolled Nurse Assistant (ENA) for a private hospital theatre department. The ENA provides essential nursing support before, during and after procedures, maintaining hygiene, infection control and patient safety.

Responsibilities include preparing patients, intra‑ and post‑operative care under supervision, theatre environment setup, aseptic technique, inventory and accurate documentation.

Qualifications

• Enrolled Nurse Assistant qualification is mandatory.
• Registration with the relevant Nursing Council (e.g., SANC in South Africa) is required.

• Support patient care during intra-operative and post-operative phases under a Registered Nurse.

Job Summary

The Theatre Enrolled Nurse Assistant (ENA) provides essential nursing support within the operating theatre to ensure the safe, effective, and efficient delivery of patient care. The ENA assists the surgical team before, during, and after procedures while maintaining high standards of hygiene, infection control, and patient safety in accordance with hospital policies and professional regulations.

Key Responsibilities

Patient Care

• Assist in preparing patients for surgical procedures, including positioning, draping, and ensuring patient comfort.
• Support patient care during intra-operative and post-operative phases under the supervision of a Registered Nurse.
• Monitor and report patient condition, vital signs, and any abnormalities to the Registered Nurse.
• Ensure patient dignity, privacy, and emotional support at all times.

Theatre Support

• Prepare and maintain the operating theatre environment, ensuring cleanliness and readiness for procedures.
• Assist with the setup of surgical instruments, equipment, and consumables.
• Maintain strict aseptic techniques and infection prevention protocols.
• Handle and dispose of medical waste according to safety standards.

Equipment & Stock Management

• Assist in the checking, cleaning, and storage of surgical equipment.
• Ensure adequate stock levels of consumables and report shortages.
• Support the proper functioning and safe use of theatre equipment.

Administrative Duties

• Accurately complete and maintain patient records and documentation.
• Assist with theatre scheduling logistics where required.
• Adhere to hospital policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.

Health & Safety Compliance

• Maintain compliance with infection control, occupational health, and safety policies.
• Participate in quality improvement and risk management initiatives.
• Report incidents, hazards, or near-misses promptly.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

• Enrolled Nurse Assistant qualification.
• Registration with the relevant Nursing Council (e.g., SANC in South Africa).

Experience

• Previous experience in a theatre or surgical environment is advantageous.
• Exposure to private hospital settings preferred.
