Purpose of the position
Responsible for timely, accurate, and cost-effective analysis performed in the Micro Lab Wadeville, as well as maintaining the internal laboratory Quality Management systems. To implement the Site Hygiene Improvement strategy as part of the site hygiene team through accurate analysis, expert problem solving, and passion for microbiology.
Responsibilities
- Perform microbiological analysis on all samples received by the micro laboratory.
- Conduct all analysis according to MAM manuals.
- Ensure accurate preparation of reagents, media, and use of standards (identified & stored correctly).
- Ensure accurate standardization of equipment (use only calibrated and verified equipment).
- Use all laboratory equipment correctly.
- Enter results accurately into the LIMS system.
- Verify that all standards and controls are within acceptable tolerances before entering results into LIMS.
- Control and complete raw data and verification records.
- Ensure correct and efficient workflow, prioritizing urgent samples.
- Be prepared to work overtime and shift patterns.
- Maintain stock of chemicals and consumables, file COAs, record batch numbers.
- Identify and store chemicals correctly.
- Keep workstations and manuals tidy and organized.
- Follow safety requirements.
- Operate according to the Quality Management Systems.
- Perform verifications as per MAM.
- Assist with or initiate method modifications, development, and validation of new methods in accordance with lab management.
- Complete and maintain records and verification checklists.
- Complete standards and controls on each worksheet.
- Report breakdowns immediately to the Hygiene Specialist.
- Handle chemicals, COAs, batch numbers correctly.
- Handle equipment properly.
- Evaluate results against standards, controls, and duplicates before reporting; spot checks will be performed by the Hygiene Specialist.
- Manage Mini Business chart effectively.
- Ensure timely and accurate results through effective planning of test work.
Educational Background and Experience
At least a National Diploma or other recognized formal tertiary qualification in Microbiology, Biotechnology, or Food Science field.
Experience
At least 2 years of experience in an analytical laboratory environment.
