Placements24 is seeking a Telecom Security Analyst to join a remote team supporting a leading telecommunications infrastructure provider. You will monitor security alerts, investigate incidents, and implement controls to safeguard network infrastructure and data across South Africa, including Sandton.

The role requires 3–5 years in cybersecurity or network security, a relevant degree, hands-on SIEM/IDS/IPS and firewall experience, and security certifications are desirable.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in CS, IS or related field.
• 3-5 years in cybersecurity or network security, preferably telecom.
• Experience with SIEM, IDS/IPS, firewalls, endpoint security.
• Knowledge of TCP/IP, DNS, HTTP/S and common attack vectors.
• Security certifications (e.g., Security+, CEH, CISSP) desirable.

Responsibilities

About the Role

Our client, a leading telecommunications infrastructure provider, is seeking a highly skilled and vigilant Telecom Security Analyst to join their remote team. This crucial role involves protecting the company's network infrastructure, data, and systems from cyber threats. You will be responsible for monitoring security alerts, investigating potential breaches, implementing security measures, and contributing to the overall security posture of the organization. The ideal candidate possesses a deep understanding of cybersecurity principles, threat detection, incident response, and network security within a telecommunications context. This is a fully remote position offering a flexible work environment and the opportunity to make a significant impact on network security in Sandton, Gauteng (or remotely from anywhere in SA).

Key Responsibilities

• Monitor security information and event management (SIEM) systems for suspicious activities and potential security threats.
• Investigate security incidents, analyze root causes, and coordinate response and remediation efforts.
• Implement and manage security controls, including firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems (IDS/IPS), and VPNs.
• Conduct regular vulnerability assessments and penetration testing to identify and address security weaknesses.
• Develop and maintain security policies, procedures, and guidelines.
• Stay updated on the latest cybersecurity threats, vulnerabilities, and trends relevant to the telecommunications industry.
• Provide security awareness training to employees.
• Collaborate with IT and network operations teams to ensure secure system configurations and deployments.
• Participate in security audits and compliance initiatives.
• Assist in developing and refining incident response plans and disaster recovery strategies.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Security, Cybersecurity, or a related field.
• 3-5 years of experience in cybersecurity, network security, or a related role, preferably within the telecommunications sector.
• Proficiency with SIEM tools, IDS/IPS, firewalls, and endpoint security solutions.
• Strong understanding of network protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, HTTP/S) and common attack vectors.
• Experience with vulnerability assessment and penetration testing methodologies.
• Knowledge of security frameworks and compliance standards (e.g., ISO 27001, NIST).
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Relevant security certifications (e.g., CompTIA Security+, CEH, CISSP) are highly desirable.
