Job summary

Bsure Insurance Advisors in Gauteng seeks an experienced Systems Administrator to own a broad range of infrastructure, systems and security responsibilities across the group environment.

The role covers Windows/Linux environments, virtualization (Proxmox/VMware/Hyper-V), networking, cloud services, security tooling and automation via scripting. It involves incident response, DR, backups and cross-functional collaboration.

Qualifications

• Has strong practical systems administration and infrastructure troubleshooting experience.
• Is comfortable working across Windows and Linux environments.
• Understands networking fundamentals including VLANs, routing, DNS, VPNs, NAT and firewalls.
• Has solid Microsoft 365 and Entra ID administration experience.

Responsibilities

• Managing our virtualisation environment, including Proxmox VE, Dell PowerEdge infrastructure and remaining VMware/Hyper-V workloads.
• Administering Windows Server, Ubuntu Server, Docker and IIS-based application environments.
• Managing Sophos firewalls, UniFi switching and wireless, VLANs, VPNs, routing and general network connectivity.
• Administering Microsoft SQL Server and supporting database backups, restores, permissions, maintenance and performance troubleshooting.
• Managing DNS, Cloudflare, domains, SSL/TLS certificates and externally published services.
• Managing endpoint monitoring, patching and automation through N-able N-central and Microsoft Intune.
• Supporting security operations using platforms such as SentinelOne, Proofpoint and Microsoft security tooling.
• Investigating security alerts and assisting with incident response, containment, remediation and post-incident reporting.
• Managing backup and disaster recovery platforms including Redstor, Veeam, NAS storage and virtual machine backups.
• Supporting integrations, APIs and infrastructure dependencies across internal and third-party business applications.
• Managing infrastructure vendors and escalating technical issues through to resolution.
• Maintaining technical documentation, network diagrams, system inventories, runbooks and change records.
• Supporting infrastructure projects, migrations, system upgrades and technology improvement initiatives.
• Using PowerShell, Bash or similar scripting to automate repetitive administrative tasks and reduce manual effort.
• Assisting with complex escalations from the IT support team where deeper systems, infrastructure or security knowledge is required.

Job description

We are looking for an experienced, hands-on Systems Administrator to join our Technology team and take ownership of a broad range of infrastructure, systems and security responsibilities across the B-Sure Group environment.

This is not purely a support-focused role. The successful candidate will be involved in the administration, maintenance, security and continuous improvement of our server, virtualisation, networking, Microsoft cloud and business application environments.

The role would suit someone who enjoys getting into the technical detail, troubleshooting complex issues from end to end, and taking ownership of a problem through to resolution rather than simply escalating it elsewhere.

Key Responsibilities

You will be responsible for areas including:

• Managing our virtualisation environment, including Proxmox VE, Dell PowerEdge infrastructure and remaining VMware/Hyper-V workloads.

What We’re Looking For

We are looking for someone who:

• Is comfortable working across both Windows and Linux environments.
• Understands networking fundamentals including VLANs, routing, DNS, VPNs, NAT and firewalls.
• Has solid Microsoft 365 and Entra ID administration experience.
• Has experience managing virtualised server environments.
• Understands security fundamentals including endpoint security, MFA, least privilege, email security and incident response.
• Can troubleshoot issues across multiple layers rather than focusing only on one technology.
• Takes ownership and follows technical problems through from investigation to resolution.
• Is comfortable documenting work and following proper change-management practices.
• Can work independently while collaborating with development, data, support and business teams.
• Has a strong focus on security, reliability and continuous improvement.

Experience with technologies such as Proxmox, Sophos, UniFi, Microsoft Azure, Microsoft Intune, SQL Server, SentinelOne, Proofpoint, N-able, Redstor, Veeam, Cloudflare and Docker would be highly beneficial.

The role includes responsibility for business-critical production systems and infrastructure. Certain maintenance activities may therefore need to take place outside of normal business hours, and the successful candidate will form part of the escalation path for significant production outages or security incidents.
