We are looking for an experienced Technology Infrastructure Manager to lead the reliability, security and evolution of LRMG’s technology platform estate and infrastructure team. Reporting to the Chief Technology Officer, this is a System Architect-level role, not simply an infrastructure administration position. You will own the architecture of our platforms, identity, data infrastructure, security posture and workflow environments that enable our AI-powered solutions and agents. You will play a key role in transforming infrastructure operations from reactive support to proactive, automated and intelligent operations, using continuous monitoring, automation and agent-supported remediation. Working closely with Technology leadership and Information Security, you will ensure our technology environment is secure, well governed, scalable and delivering real business value.
Key Responsibilities:
Intelligent Systems foundation
Build and maintain the platform, identity and data foundations that AI-enabled workflows and agents depend on, so that intelligence can be applied inside the flow of work rather than alongside it.
- Ensure agents sit inside our systems of record and collaboration platforms rather than beside them. Support the agent register and the no orphan agents rule: no agent is deployed without an owner, a workflow, a measure and a review date.
- Provide the infrastructure evidence required for the Technology Governance Council's approval path for new agents and high-risk AI systems.
- Make the identity, access and data foundations ready for the next stages of the maturity model, from Leadership Mindset and AI Fluency through to AI Adoption, AI Transformation and an AI Operating System.
Systems architecture
Own the architecture of LRMG's infrastructure and platform estate, and provide the architecture and integration view the rest of the organisation depends on. LRMG holds that its leaders are System Architects.
In this role that is not a metaphor but the substance of the work: you will describe how our systems fit together, decide how they should change, and make those decisions legible to people who are not engineers.
- Maintain an authoritative view of the LRMG systems landscape: what runs, where it runs, what it connects to, what data moves between systems and who owns each part.
- Design the target-state architecture for the platform estate and sequence the work that moves LRMG toward it.
- Set and uphold architecture and integration standards for identity, access, data movement, logging and observability, so that systems can be assured rather than merely deployed.
- Provide the architecture and integration input required by LRMG's Technology Governance Council and other assurance forums, including the evidence needed to register, risk-tier and review an intelligent system.
- Recommend that a proposed change be redesigned, paused or escalated where architecture, resilience, security, supportability or cost evidence is insufficient. Production approval and residual risk acceptance remain with the authorised governance body and risk owner.
- Assess the architectural impact of proposed changes, agents and third-party services before they are adopted, and say plainly where a design creates risk, cost or lock-in.
- Keep the architecture documented and current, so that it survives individuals and becomes organisational memory rather than personal knowledge.
Operational excellence
Deliver consistent performance, reliability and availability across the estate, so that the business can rely on its platforms without thinking about them.
- Monitor and resolve infrastructure issues promptly to minimise downtime and business disruption.
- Move the team from reactive incident handling toward continuous sensing and automated remediation. Maintain tested recovery and continuity arrangements for critical platforms, including approved recovery objectives, restoration evidence, dependency maps, escalation paths and remediation of failed exercises. Establish the operating rhythms, runbooks and escalation paths that keep service predictable.
Team leadership and capability
Lead and mentor the infrastructure team, providing clear guidance, support and training so that capability grows deliberately rather than by accident.
- Set direction, allocate work and hold the team to a shared standard of execution.
- Build role-based AI fluency within the team, in line with Stage 2 of the maturity model.
- Coach team members in the flow of work and develop successors for critical skills.
Infrastructure maintenance and modernisation
Keep the estate current, supported and resilient across servers, networks, storage and cloud.
- Plan and perform routine maintenance, updates and upgrades with minimal business impact. Proactively identify and mitigate risks and vulnerabilities before they become incidents.
- Retire technical debt that limits the reliability or scalability of the platform.
Cloud and platform strategy
Lead the migration, integration and ongoing management of cloud services in line with LRMG's cloud strategy.
- Evaluate and adopt technologies that improve scalability, performance and cost efficiency.
- Design integration between cloud platforms, on-premises systems and business applications.
- Keep platform choices coherent with the architecture that Intelligent Systems require.
Security, governance and compliance
- Work with the Chief Information Security Officer to implement approved security requirements, operate infrastructure controls, provide assurance evidence and remediate weaknesses. Residual risk acceptance remains with the authorised risk owner.
- Implement and monitor approved security controls, maintain a defensible infrastructure security posture, and escalation unresolved or residual risks through the authorised governance path.
- Operate within the Emerging Technology, AI Governance and Intelligent Organisation Framework V2.0. Uphold the rule that AI tooling is not procured departmentally outside the Technology Governance Council and Technology by Design.
- Prepare infrastructure input for Technology Governance Council decisions, which require Chief Technology Officer and Chief Information Security Officer sign-off.
Vendor, cost and resource management
- Manage vendor relationships and contracts so that LRMG receives the service and value it has contracted for. Allocate resources across projects and operations, and monitor budget utilisation.
- Hold vendors to delivery, security and support commitments.
- Prepare investment cases in the knowledge that investment decisions and financial guardrails remain independently governed through the Chief Executive Officer and Chief Financial Officer investment process.
Measurement, reporting and benefits realisation
Make the work visible and prove that it pays. Benefits realisation is mandatory at LRMG: every initiative must declare, track and report a business outcome.
- Maintain infrastructure documentation, network diagrams and configurations.
- Produce the infrastructure input to the function's weekly IO Update, focused on strategy execution, organisational intelligence and measurable progress against priorities.
- State the outcome each initiative exists to produce and track it through to delivery.
- Ensure that any financial benefit is verified by Finance before it is reported, in line with the rule that LRMG does not report a benefit that Finance has not verified.
Formal qualifications
- A relevant degree or diploma in Information Technology or Computer Science, or demonstrable equivalent experience.
- One or more relevant Microsoft Azure or Azure AI certifications required.
- Demonstrable administration experience across supported Microsoft Windows Server and Cloud environments.
- ITIL V4 or V5 certification is advantageous.
- VMware certification is advantageous.
- Cisco CCNA or CCNP certification is advantageous.
- Working knowledge of cybersecurity principles and tools is required.
- Project management training such as PMI, Agile or Scrum is advantageous.
- Six to ten years managing IT infrastructure in small to medium organisations.
- Designing, implementing and maintaining complex on-premises and cloud infrastructure.
- Leading and mentoring technical teams. Hands-on experience with VMware, Veeam, networking, Azure, and Linux and Windows environments; AWS experience is advantageous.
- Management and process improvement.
- Successful infrastructure projects, including upgrades and tenant-to-tenant Microsoft 365 migrations.
- Familiarity with compliance regulations and IT security standards.
