Job Description
The Human Capital and Employee Enablement IT Executive is accountable for the Employee Digital Enablement and Human Capital Technology strategy and execution.
This individual reports directly to the Group CIO with responsibility to enable the Group People Officer. The Executive is required to oversee the technology and digital enablement of the employee journey which encompasses the employee experience, communication, collaboration and productivity tools.
The incumbent is accountable for the innovation, operational performance, and efficiency of the Human Capital Platforms that supports the group.
This role ensures that digital tools, systems, and processes empower employees, enhance productivity, and align with the broader organizational goals of Old Mutual. The incumbent is required to face off to multiple CIOs in the various business lines and entities within OML.
Job Responsibilities
Employee E nablement strategy – Formulate and execute the IT strategy for human capital systems and employee enablement journey to align with Old Mutual’s goals and objectives and Group IT Strategy
Create and manage a technology roadmap that outlines key initiatives, timelines and milestones for areas under the incumbent responsibility
Technical expertise – Oversee the selection , deployment and maintenance of platforms that support and enable the Employee and Human Capital .
Partnering with the Group Human Capital Function to drive a technology roadmap aligned with the HC strategy
Delivering comprehensive workplace solutions and improving employee productivity by implementing and supporting employee messaging and collaborating tools
Leading seamless integration of end-to-end IT services, resulting in an improved overall employee experience through streamlined processes.
Governing the technology stack for human capital, establishing principles and procedures that reduce system downtimes, aligning with business and IT architecture standards and governance .
Own and drive the digital strategy for Human Capital systems, with a focus on Workday as the core HCM platform.
Lead the adoption and optimization of Microsoft 365 tools to enhance employee collaboration, communication, and productivity.
Partner with HR, Business Line CIOs , and business leaders to identify and implement technology solutions that improve employee experience and operational efficiency.
Oversee governance, data integrity, and system integration across the human capital and employee technology landscape.
Manage vendor relationships, contracts, and service delivery for key platforms (e.g., Workday, Microsoft, third-party integrators , payroll system, learning and collaborative platforms ).
Lead a cross-functional team of technologists, analysts, and change agents to deliver impactful digital initiatives.
Monitor emerging trends in HR tech and digital workplace tools to inform innovation and continuous improvement.
Employee experience enhancement – Focus on how technology can improve employee engagement, productivity and overall experience. Ensure that employee concerns related to technology are addressed and support mechanisms are in place.
Agile software development frameworks and implementation – Demonstrate an understanding of Agile frameworks ( e.g. Scrum, SAFe) including their principles, roles, ceremonies and artifacts. Be able to execute by applying them to different project scenarios.
Evaluate emerging technologies and trends – Identify opportunities for technology-driven improvements to enhance Employee and Workplace Enablement platforms’ productivity and performance. Explore and pilot innovative technologies and solutions that can provide a competitive advantage or significantly improve Employee and Workplace Enablement capabilities.
Technology Thought Leadership – Drive the technology thought leadership for the employee and HC domain by staying on top of emerging trends, platform enhancements, AI, automation etc
Stakeholder and team collaboration – Build trust through strong delivery and product management practices for engaging within teams and stakeholders.
Leadership and mentorship – Provide leadership, guidance and mentorship to various levels within Employee and HC Tech teams.
Team Performance - Responsibility of directing and motivating team members, ensuring that individual and team objectives are aligned with organizational goals.
Work Planning and Assignment: Develops comprehensive plans and assigns tasks strategically, considering individual strengths and workload capacity to optimize team productivity and efficiency.
Accountable for the Execution of Business Plans by providing the relevant resources and clarity for delivery
Guidance and Direction: Provides clear guidance and direction to team members, empowering them to achieve operational excellence standards while fostering a supportive and collaborative work environment.
Performance Optimization: Cultivates a climate conducive to optimal performance by fostering open communication, providing constructive feedback, and recognizing and celebrating team achievements to motivate and inspire continuous improvement.
Accountable for managing the risk profile, legislative, compliance and audit requirements
Financial Management to ensure that the organisation is getting a cost effective technology estate aligned to an IT TCO that the business can afford
Operations – Accountable for the technology operations for employee and human capital IT estate and ensure that the ITSM processes and governance are being executed on.
Qualification
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science , Information Systems and/or Business Administration or a related field ( Honours preferred)
Workday certification or equivalent experience in Workday HCM modules is highly desirable
Microsoft 365 certifications (e.g., Modern Desktop Administrator, Teams Administrator) is advantageous
Agile certification from a recognised institution is advantageous
Experience
Proven experience and proficiency in digital workplace, human capital and payroll management platforms used in the Old Mutual environment, including Microsoft, Workday , Oracle Payroll, Salesforce, SAP Success Factors, CRM or similar
Proven experience with Cloud based Human Capital technology
8 + years of experience in IT or a related field, with at least 5 years in a leadership or managerial role
8+ years of experience in HR technology, payroll technology, digital transformation, or enterprise systems management
Strong background in Microsoft 365 ecosystem, including Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive, and Power Platform
Demonstrated success in driving digital enablement and employee experience initiatives in a large, complex organization
Experience with Agile methodologies and tools , e.g. SAFe, Scrum, Less, etc.
Experience managing cross-functional teams
Experience in implementation of digital strategies
Demonstrated and proven Technical experience with implementation and support / running of an HCM platform or cloud based ERP is a key requirement and measure of success for this role. Workday or similar an advantage .
Demonstrated, technical experience with Microsoft suite of tools and integrating them into an organisation
