Purpose of Position:

To process specimens according to set criteria and standards on all benches in the Molecular Biology Laboratory.

Requirements:
  • Bachelor of Science Honours
  • HPCSA Registration in Relevant Register and Practice Field
  • National Diploma: Biomedical Technology
Required Experience:
  • Experiential training in a training laboratory
  • Knowledge of HPCSA regulations
  • Knowledge of Meditech system
  • Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Act (OSHA)
Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist with the development and evaluation of new assays when required
  • Ensure accreditation and Quality Control tasks are performed to uphold standards
  • Maintain good client relations to promote the image of Ampath
  • Monitor assay result analysis and reporting on detection platforms for rapid and accurate reporting
  • Oversee receiving and processing of specimens to ensure efficient results delivery
  • Monitor the HIV viral load bench for acceptable turnaround times
  • Manage discipline, workflow, turnaround time, and task distribution daily
  • Perform Laboratory Information System (Meditech) dictionary maintenance when needed
  • Handle Materials Management tasks to control stock levels
  • Train laboratory staff and conduct competency assessments
