Job Description
Purpose
To ensure maintenance, repair and installation of all environmental (humidity and HVACR), mechanical and electrical equipment by effectively performing preventive, corrective and breakdown maintenance.
Main Responsibilities (not Limited To)
- Ensure the maintenance and repairs of Electrical, Water, Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning & Refrigeration (HVACR) and Humidity Reticulation.
- Ensure the maintenance and repairs of mechanical systems.
- Develop relevant monthly work schedules to ensure that all work within the unit is covered.
- Engage with the Maintenance Engineer on a weekly and monthly basis regarding resourcing needs.
- Ensure that tasks assigned in projects are completed in compliance with the required standards.
- Ensure that all non-conformances and acts within the Facilities Maintenance Section are logged in compliance with the ISO system.
- Lead the team effectively by fostering a positive work environment, promoting collaboration, and ensuring high levels of employee engagement and performance.
- Responsible for team talent acquisition and onboarding, performance management, team member development, workforce planning and succession planning, recognition and retention, appropriately resolving conflict and ensuring disciplinary and grievance matters are conducted in line with policy.
- Lead Root Cause Analyses (RCA) and Failure Modes and Effect Analyses (FMECA) activities, implement sustainable engineering solutions and contribute to continuous improvement to ensure the availability and reliability of the following assets (Electric and Fuel Boilers, HVAC system, Water distribution, Bulk fuel reticulation, Generators and substations, Solar Power Plant etc.).
- Scope and compile technical specifications and manage internal and external (contractors) resources for departmental projects.
- Compile data and reports for monthly submission to Maintenance Engineer.
- Maintain and provide input in the compilation of standard operating procedures (SOP) and work instructions (WI) for complex technical tasks.
- Develop safe work procedures (SWP) and report any residual risks or incidents to the general machinery regulations (GMR) 2.7 appointee or HOD
- Ensure all statutory requirements are adhered to and standard operating procedures.
- Ensure updated risk assessments are in place at all times and conduct HIRA for all projects
- Ensure updated critical spares and plant technical documentation are available at all times.
- Contribute to innovations, business improvements and budget within the Facilities Maintenance Section.
- Ensure Health, Safety and Environmental regulations are adhered to in line with the legal requirements for both SABN employees and contractors.
- Perform reasonable value-add ad hoc duties or activities that are beyond normal scope of work, when requested.

The Preferred Candidate Is Likely To Have
- National Diploma (essential) OR N6 Mechanical / Electrical with Refrigeration & Air Conditioning Trade Test (essential)
- Tech Degree in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering (desirable)
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning & Refrigeration (HVACR) within a manufacturing environment of which 2 years were in a supervisory role.
Knowledge And Skills
- Well-developed knowledge of utilities services and HVACR systems
- Well-developed knowledge of Electro Boilers and Humidity systems
- Well-developed knowledge of Building Management System/s (BMS)
- Developed knowledge of Engineering Principles and Standards (ISO, SANS etc.)
- Developed knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHS Act) including Regulations
- Developed knowledge of operational planning
- Developed knowledge of chemical handling
- Developed knowledge of Systems Engineering
- Developed knowledge of contractor management
- Developed understanding of spares management process
- Broad knowledge of ERP Systems
- Basic understanding of smart and mobile maintenance and related equipment performance data analytics
- Basic knowledge of Facilities Management Standards.
