A leading company in the automotive sector is seeking a Chemical Technician to support their East London plant with chemical analysis and monitoring processes. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of a Chemistry degree and a strong background in chemical laboratory work, benefiting from experience with automotive coatings. Description
Responsible for supporting the Mercedes-Benz East London plant with chemical analysis and monitoring of critical materials and plant processes (e.g. pretreatment, e-coat) to ensure strict adherence to quality standards. The incumbent will also provide technical support for investigations and problem-solving. Calibration/verification of analytical equipment and adherence to S.H.E.Q. standards will form part of the scope of work of the technician.
The Job Requirements
Experience with various analytical techniques - e.g. Karl Fischer titration, scanning electron microscope, FTIR spectrophotometer, and titrations.
Analytical and conceptual thinking.
Excellent verbal and written communication and report-writing skills.
Proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite.
Ability to perform the minimum required physical and mental requirements of the function.
People’s Principles as per LEAD.
Responsible for analysis, monitoring and evaluation of materials, critical facility equipment and processes to ensure strict adherence to Mercedes-Benz quality standards.
Use analytical techniques and chemical knowledge to assist with investigations and problem solving.
Conducts material evaluation as per the ISIR process.
Conducts calibration/verification of equipment.
Ensures adherence to SHEQ standards.
Responsible for self-development.
Performs delegated S.H.E.Q tasks and duties & informs superior about deviations.
Ensure compliance with the Company's Integrity & Anti Bribery Codes, Conflict of Interest Policy & S.H.E.Q requirements.
Qualifications
Minimum NQF 7 - Degree in Chemistry or relevant equivalent
Knowledge and Experience
3 years’ experience working in a chemical laboratory
Experience with automotive coatings, metal pretreatment and e-coat processes would be advantageous.
At least 6 months participation in our Graduate Development Programme
