Qualifications
  • National Diploma (NQF 6/10) in Civil Engineering
Experience
  • Minimum 18 months relevant experience in structural/civil work
  • Experience in visual inspection of old structures for signs of wear, corrosion, fatigue, or other deterioration
  • Experience in detailed inspection methods like ultrasonic testing or other non-destructive testing (NDT) methods to assess material integrity
  • Ability to document findings such as cracks, rust, deformation, or other issues affecting structural integrity
  • Ability to plan and recommend treatments for structural defects
  • Experience in re-analyzing existing structures according to modern standards to assess safety under current loads
  • Collaboration with engineers for reinforcement or improvement recommendations
  • Experience designing repairs or retrofitting solutions to meet current standards
  • Knowledge of Building Codes and Standards (e.g., Eurocodes, AISC)
  • Ensure repairs or retrofits comply with environmental regulations, using sustainable materials when possible
  • Project management knowledge
  • Ability to set up maintenance plans for structures requiring regular upkeep
  • Knowledge of Safety and Risk Management, including OSH Act and related regulations
  • Proficiency in CAD software (AutoCAD, Tekla) and structural analysis software
  • Experience managing repairs and retrofits, ensuring timely and budget-compliant completion
  • Knowledge of SAP and computer literacy
