Job Description
To outline the responsibilities and authorities the Technician has in relation to post requirements of managerial, technical and key support personnel.
- Must be able to record, evaluate and validate instrumentation data (LECO, ICP, XRF, AAS & Wet Chem) for specific jobs.
- Complete tasks within the allocated time and plan work for operators to meet overall service goals of the laboratory.
- Perform routine and non-routine analytical operations on specific instrumentation (LECO, ICP, XRF, AAS & Wet Chem) as required.
- Ensure turnaround times are adhered to for instrumentation analysis.
- Perform all analysis as assigned.
- Assist in validating new methods or modifications under the guidance of senior instrumentation staff.
- Report technical and managerial problems to senior staff.
- Follow quality protocols for accreditation of chemical analysis instrumentation.
- Adhere to all quality, health, and safety regulations.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the work area.
- Comply with Laboratory Quality Management System (ISO17025).
- Record repairs, maintenance, calibration, and verification of instruments.
- Use correct consumables and chemicals for analysis.
- Work in other laboratory areas or divisions as needed.
- Follow all SGS management system quality and safety requirements.
- Perform other tasks as assigned by the line manager.
Qualifications
Education
- Matriculation with Mathematics and Science.
Experience
- Operational experience in a SANAS 17025 accredited facility.
- LIMS administration and operation.
- Experience in instrumentation, data collection, and reporting.
- At least 3 years of relevant experience.
Competencies
- Proficient in the use of LIMS.
- Ability to troubleshoot instruments and methods.
- Knowledge of calibration standards, quality control, verification, and CRM’s.
- Managing Good Laboratory Practice.
- Assist with SANAS audits and laboratory documentation.
