Main Purpose of the Job
To outline the responsibilities and authorities of the Technician and person weighing prills at SGS Northam Eland.
Responsibilities
- Log received samples into the SLIMS system using work orders from clients.
- Print sample labels.
- Ensure samples are sorted correctly before labeling and boxing.
- Follow all quality directives of the department.
- Weigh prills using a micro-balance and record weights in SLIMS.
- Lock prills away in the safe at the end of the shift.
- Perform nickel sulphide leaches and/or other wet chemical techniques by following written procedures.
- Operate laboratory instrumentation such as LECO analyzers.
- Report technical and managerial problems to the Chemist.
- Adhere to all quality, health, and safety rules and regulations.
- Maintain orderliness in the receiving area and micro-balance room.
- Comply with Laboratory Quality Management System (ISO17025).
- Record repairs, maintenance, calibration, and verification of instruments.
- Work in other areas/divisions if required.
- Follow all SGS quality and safety requirements.
- Perform other tasks as assigned by the line manager.
Specific Authorities
- Cease use of any equipment that poses a safety hazard or involves hazardous environments, and report to higher authorities.
- Stop work that may affect service quality and report to higher authorities.
- Initiate formal improvement requests when deviations or nonconformities are identified.
Qualifications
Education
- National Diploma in Analytical Chemistry.
- Grade 12 with Mathematics and Science.
Experience
- At least 3 years laboratory experience.
- Competent in logging samples and working with CClas.
- Responsible for working with prills.
- Skilled in performing various wet chemical techniques.
- Experience in LIMS administration and operation.
- Experience in instrumentation, data collection, and reporting.
Competencies
- Full understanding of the LIMS system.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office.
- Knowledge of Laboratory Quality Management System.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work well under pressure.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
