Job description

Technical Trader / Buyer

Our client, a leading supplier of goods and services to various industries in South Africa and other African countries, is seeking a Technical Trader / Buyer responsible for managing and processing all technical enquiries from sourcing to delivery and invoicing.

The role involves following up on potential business activities within the company's territories to expand business through market analysis, commercial actions, and vendor negotiations.

The ideal candidate should have a technical and commercial mindset, with a willingness to work in the field to identify new upstream clients. Experience in buying and selling technical products, from spare parts to advanced equipment and machinery, is required.

Experience working with African markets is advantageous.

Responsibilities
  1. Receive and analyze client enquiries (specifications, matching, etc.).
  2. Source suppliers and products locally and internationally using databases, market research, and online resources.
  3. Gather logistical and other necessary information to prepare quotations, including margins and currency considerations.
  4. Prepare and follow up on commercial proposals to secure orders, handling queries and negotiations.
  5. Place and manage orders, coordinating with logistics, warehouse, finance, and other departments for end-to-end delivery.
  6. Maintain existing client relationships and develop new ones, with potential domestic and international travel.
  7. Report on profitability and other commercial metrics.
  8. Perform other relevant duties as required.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Proficiency in English; French skills are a plus.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills.
  • Experience in international sourcing and procurement, particularly in the Oil & Gas, Mining, Construction, Renewable Energy, or machinery sectors.
  • Knowledge of procuring spare parts, raw materials, and technical equipment.
  • Willingness and ability to travel domestically and internationally.
  • Qualifications: B Com, National Diploma, or similar.
  • Minimum 5 years experience in trading and procurement roles within relevant industries.
Package & Remuneration

Salary ranges from R30,000 to R60,000 per month, depending on experience, plus sales incentives.
