Job description

We are looking to recruit a Technical Team Lead to form part of the IT Data Management & Enterprise Architect Team in the Group IT department. The role will be based at Clicks Head Office in Cape Town and will report to the Applications Portfolio Manager.

To lead and manage the data development team within the Data Analytics department, ensuring the delivery of high-quality data solutions that support strategic decision-making across the organization. This role involves overseeing the work of Senior and Junior Data Developers, setting technical direction, and ensuring best practices in data engineering and development.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead and manage a team of data developers, including mentoring and performance management.
• Define and enforce best practices in data development, coding standards, and documentation.
• Architect and oversee the implementation of scalable data solutions and pipelines.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to understand data requirements and translate them into technical solutions.
• Ensure data integrity, security, and performance across all data systems.
• Conduct code reviews and provide technical guidance to team members.
• Manage workload distribution and project timelines within the data development team.
• Contribute to strategic planning and continuous improvement initiatives in data architecture and analytics.
• Manage HR-related activities including leave approvals, performance reviews, and career development planning for team members.
• Support recruitment and onboarding of new data development staff.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field.
• Extensive experience in data development and engineering, including Oracle SQL and PL/SQL.
• Strong understanding of data warehouse schemas (Kimball/Star) and ETL processes.
• Proven leadership experience in managing technical teams.
• Expertise in data architecture and performance optimization.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Experience with data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau).
• Commitment to data quality and governance.
• Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., Snowflake, AWS Glue, Azure Data Factory).
• Proficiency with version control systems (e.g., Git).
• Knowledge of Python or other scripting languages.
• Familiarity with Agile and DevOps methodologies.
• Experience in strategic planning and enterprise data architecture.
