Job description

Main job function

This role will own Customer solutions for standard and non-standard requirements. Internal Technical focus 60%, external Customer focus 40%. Engineering background with growth into the architecture function would be key. This is a full-time role based in Umhlanga, Durban and forms part of the core Architecture function within the business.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Pre-Sales, Sales and Customer interface
  2. Responsible for solution feasibility, qualification and articulation.
  3. Determination of internal and external technology/technical, pricing and vendor requirements for solutions.
  4. Production and provision of customer design requirements.
  5. Ensure proposals and solution amendments are responded to with adequate quality, within prescribed timescales, with input from engineering, procurement and project delivery.
  6. Provide technical and solutions support for our sales team and assist in evaluating opportunities based on technical requirements and alignment with business capabilities.
  7. Internal engagements with sales and project teams.
  8. External engagements with customers and suppliers.
  9. Technical interface
  10. Consult with the technical teams to assist in the development of solutions (designs equipment/hardware, configurations, etc.) to meet customer requirements.
  11. Ensuring compliance with client’s architecture and engineering standards, specifications, policies and protocols in the formulation of the Design Diagrams and Technical Solution Document (TSD).
  12. Technical oversight of the development and delivery of the Solution over the project lifecycle.
  13. Analysis of infrastructure resource utilization, trending, and capacity planning.
  14. Internal engagements with engineering teams.
  15. Operations interface
  16. Production and provision of complete solutions delivery and support packs in line with operations (Delivery and Support) requirements.
  17. Internal engagements with support teams.
  18. Work both individually and as part of a team where appropriate.
  19. Fulfil any training and/or examination requirements as per clients’ skills and certification matrix.
  20. Participating in and contributing to internal and external meetings as required.
  21. Be willing to carry out or assist with such tasks as may be required to achieve deliverables.
  22. Be willing and able to work in such locations as relevant to the successful delivery of the assigned projects.
  23. Always be a professional and courteous representative for the company.

  1. Internal sales, operations and engineering teams.
  2. Suppliers and third-party vendors.
  3. Customers engineering teams.

Role Potential

Increase in the scope of customers and/or solution complexities with additional experience, and improved knowledge of the client’s portfolio of services and customers. More in-depth involvement in the product development area of the business with increased responsibilities.

Necessary Experience and/or Qualification

  1. 5+ years of Pre-Sales and/or Solution Architecture experience in a Service Provider environment or ICT / Telecommunications Industry.
  2. 5+ years of Technical Engineering experience.
  3. Relevant network certifications an advantage i.e. Cisco, Fortinet, AWS and/or Azure.
  4. Deep technical understanding of networking, voice and secure cloud products and services.
  5. Knowledge and experience of physical network infrastructure.
  6. Experience in communicating complex technical solutions directly with customers.
  7. Experience in articulating technical designs and requirements in a structured format.

  2. Excellent Visio skill in creating diagrams both internal and external facing.
  3. Excellent documentation and technical design documentation skills.
  4. Technical and strong analytical skills required.
  5. Creative approach to problem solving.
  6. Interpersonal communication and customer service skills.
  7. Self-motivated, project and account management experience.
  8. Travel to prospective customer’s sites as necessary.
  9. Ability to follow standard engineering principles and practices.
  10. Able to create strong relationships with customers.
