Job Description

The role's purpose is to ensure safe and optimized mine designs, budgets, technical inputs, and forecasts are planned, reviewed, and risks controlled to support efficient mine operations in compliance with the plan.

Key responsibilities include establishing technical and planning systems, standards, and processes to support best practice mechanized mining in South Africa, incorporating new technologies and industry standards.

Key Performance Areas

1. Develop systems and routines for effective work management and medium-short range planning for mining technical teams.
2. Provide leadership and coordination for the Underground Mine Engineering Team, supporting various underground technical functions.
3. Drive improvements and innovation in underground mining technical and operational processes through stakeholder engagement.
4. Review and finalize annual budgets and technical mine plans, cascading into operational tactics and short-range plans.
5. Develop first principle mining budgets aligned with mine plans for equipment, consumables, labor, and costs.
6. Support long-term planning, life of mine, and RDP work requirements.
7. Lead Safety by Design initiatives to support safe and efficient mine design.
8. Apply extensive underground mining knowledge to lead technical teams and influence operations, ensuring integrated solutions from design to execution.
9. Support safety improvements across the underground mine.
10. Establish quality control and performance measures to ensure high technical and operational standards.
11. Collaborate across multiple stakeholder teams to deliver departmental and business objectives.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Mining, Engineering, Geology, or Mineral Resources Management.
• Desirable: statutory Mining Management qualification and leadership experience with statutory accountability.
• Over 15 years of site-based operational, technical, and management experience in underground mining engineering.

Knowledge & Skills

• Extensive underground mechanized mining technical experience across multiple disciplines.
• Technical management and leadership in modern mass mining operations.
• Caving experience preferred.
• Proven leadership in establishing and managing technical systems, performance improvement, and safety leadership.
