Job summary

Job description

INTERNAL / EXTERNAL ADVERT

Preferably with qualifications in Quantity Surveying and/or Construction Management/Civil Engineering, with verifiable experience in electrical works, project management, and site supervision.

Extensive knowledge of the built environment and electrical works pricing.

Good verbal and written communication skills, decision-making skills, relationship building, management, teamwork, problem-solving, planning, organizing, and control skills.

Ability to speak, read, and write at least two of the 11 South African languages, with one vernacular language as an advantage.

Key Performance Areas:
  1. Assist contractors in developing effective workflow programmes for clients.
  2. Identify suitable development programmes for all National Construction Incubator clients, utilizing approved planning tools.
  3. Assist and lobby for more work with client departments within the province.
  4. Prepare reports on financial and technical activities for presentation at management meetings.
  5. Develop and provide access to systems to enhance programme management roles.
  6. Assist with packaging projects and awarding them to contractors.
  7. Create linkages with material suppliers and financial institutions.
  8. Facilitate handover of contractor profiles and performance reports.
  9. Provide technical mentorship and support tools to contractors.
  10. Facilitate workshops for contractors as part of mentorship support.
  11. Conduct skills assessment audits for contractors and develop intervention plans.

Applicants are invited to apply for the position of Technical Mentor - Gauteng at the National Construction Incubator (NCI). NCI aims to develop emerging construction businesses by enhancing their technical and business skills to ensure sustainability and job creation in South Africa. The incumbent will be based in NCI – Gauteng offices.

Qualifications:

  • Diploma in Civil Engineering or Building with at least 8 years of experience. A BTECH/Degree is highly preferable, especially in Civil Surveying, with 5 years of relevant experience emphasizing electrical knowledge.
  • Construction Health and Safety experience (Compliance, Training, and Application).
  • Registration with SACPCMP, ECSA, or ASAQS as a technician or technologist.
  • Valid driver’s license (Code 8 or 10) and own vehicle.
  • Ability to speak, read, and write at least two of the 11 South African languages, with one vernacular language as an advantage.
