Job description

  • A BTech Veterinary Technology with postgraduate being advantageous.
  • The successful candidate must be registered with the veterinary council.
  • Previous experience (minimum 5 years) having worked on planning, running and writing up ISO validations to submit is essential.
  • Previous experience having worked within the poultry and related industries is preferred.
  • Previous experience having worked within the field of molecular and bacteriology is essential (Minimum 5 years).
  • Must have a sound understanding of serology, microbiology and molecular principles.
  • Must have knowledge and experience in method validation including design and running.
  • Must be able to display analytical, innovative and research thinking.
  • Must be able to write SOPs according to minimum standards.
  • Must have strong communication and computer skills including Excel.
  • Knowledge of working on different analytical equipment will be advantageous.

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Managing a team of analysts and driving the technical department ensuring that ISO validations are planned, run and written up to submit.
  • Providing feedback to the operations manager on all work-related matters.
  • Managing and overseeing all data capturing and reviews.
  • Overseeing and managing all test methods according to their training capacity or competency.
  • Maintaining a minimum stock level of all materials needed.
  • Reviewing and verifying test results.
  • Using appropriate methods and techniques to carry out tests.
  • Reviewing and evaluating SOPs including optimisation of current methods.
  • Developing new analytical methods with relevant validation.
  • Conducting staff training on technical concepts and methodology.
  • Promoting and maintaining laboratory safety procedures at the section level.
  • Promoting and maintaining efficient laboratory conditions required for personnel safety and effective running of tests.
  • Providing guidance to laboratory analysts.
  • Completing and participating in non-conformance investigations.
