Job description

Minimum requirements for the role :

  • A chemistry or chemical engineering qualification or related qualification is required for this role.
  • Previous experience working within the coatings or paints, or polymer or related markets is preferred for this role handling product development and production technical support as well as supporting the sales support and customer service teams.
  • The successful candidate should have a strong background in laboratory procedures with a solid knowledge of ISO 9001.
  • The person must have a chemistry understanding. Ideally a background in paints and coatings for this role would be good.
  • Strong understanding of chemical formulation, process chemistry, etc within a manufacturing process.
  • Familiarity with quality systems (e.g., ISO), SHEQ compliance, and product regulatory requirements (e.g., REACH, GHS).
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and project management skills.

The successful candidate will be responsible for :

  • Managing and driving a new product development, transferring technology to production, and providing technical service to customers when required to do so.
  • Managing production and laboratory operations, including maintaining accurate product Bills of Materials (BOMs).
  • Assisting with the development and improvement of locally manufactured products.
  • Overseeing the review, analysis, and implementation of raw material changes.
  • Managing and overseeing all aspects of the laboratory and its operations.
  • Promoting and maintaining a strong focus on safety and quality in all activities.
  • Calculating and reviewing local product costs to support pricing and budgeting.
  • Investigating and supporting product compliance with relevant regulations and standards.
  • Communicating with suppliers and customers to address and resolve technical enquiries.
  • Improving local technology through continuous development and innovation.
  • Ensuring responsible product stewardship across all stages of the product lifecycle.
  • Optimizing operational efficiencies to enhance productivity and reduce waste.
  • Managing technology transfer from R&D to production, ensuring process capability and production efficiency.
  • Providing high-level technical support to customers, including troubleshooting, product trials, and optimisation of chemical applications.
  • Collaborating with production and quality teams to ensure consistent product quality and continuous improvement.
  • Monitoring and evaluating industry trends, competitor products, and customer feedback to inform development strategies.
