TECHNICAL MANAGER –
ELECTRICAL WORKSHOP

Responsibilities
○ To assist the Senior Technical Manager in carrying out maintenance responsibilities by attending to technical problems and other related issues in the allocated area of responsibility in accordance with the UP standard and the Client’s specific needs while ensuring compliance with all statutory regulations;
○ To enable the Technical Manager to achieve the objectives he/she would need to attend to the following:
- Ensure equipment design are in line with the established standards and specification;
- Assist the Senior Technical Manager in identifying equipment/designs that are compliant or non-compliant with statutory requirements;
- Perform effective maintenance planning and execution according to business requirements, as set out in the maintenance contracts;
- Provide guidance to the Workshop Manager/Maintenance Contractors and ensure breakdown maintenance is effectively managed;
- Physically capable of visiting sites and buildings, including areas with heights and limited access.;
- Manage the maintenance budget to ensure required work is done within available funds.
Minimum Requirements
- A relevant Bachelor’s or B-Tech degree in Electrical Engineering, plus 4 years of maintenance and operational experience post-qualification;
- Proven relevant experience in all of the following:
- 11kV distribution systems ;
- Electrical distribution systems;
- Building reticulation and systems;
- Stand-by generators.
- A valid driver’s license.
Required Competencies (skills, Knowledge And Behavioural Attributes)
- Accounting and budget control skills;
- Administrative skills to ensure that all records are kept in an orderly fashion, to ensure easy access;
- Communication skills to bring across a message in a logical and effective manner.
- The ability to use the communication medium (written and verbal) in order to transfer complex concepts (technical and non-technical) without ambiguity at all levels;
- Computer literacy – skilled in MS Office and especially in Excel;
- Ability to conduct inspections in order to evaluate defects and control repair jobs;
- Analytical thinking – to be able to analyse a situation, differentiate between issues, group the issues logically, make conclusions out of available information and draw recommendations therefrom;
- Ability to apply basic analytical principles in known and unknown situations;
- The ability to identify and solve high-priority problems in crisis situations;
- Organising skills to organise (people and work) in a logical manner in order to reach set objectives;
- Negotiating skills to use negotiation methods to understand the situation and gain mutual advantage while being ethical;
- Conflict-handling ability and the ability to apply problem-solving techniques in both technical and organisational contexts’.

The annual remuneration package will be commensurate with the incumbent’s level of appointment, as determined by UP policy guidelines. UP subscribes to the BESTMED and UMVUZO medical aid schemes and contributes 50% of the applicable monthly premium.
