  • The Technical Delivery Lead is accountable for the successful planning, execution, and delivery of technology-driven programmes and initiatives within the Modernisation area of BankervAfrica. This role ensures coordination between cross-functional product teams, technical teams, external vendors, and stakeholders to deliver scalable, secure, and high-quality solutions—particularly within BankservAfrica’s Modernisation and Payments environments. The role blends deep technical understanding, delivery discipline, and leadership capability to drive outcomes aligned to business goals. The role will include providing leadership for portfolio analysis and management, demand, and resource management, and being accountable for the performance of these functions.
  • The Delivery Lead will oversee a multi-disciplinary team including but not limited to Technical Analysts, Programme Managers, Project Managers, Test Managers and Project Administrators; and develop a feasible allocation or reallocation plan for resources across the projects within the Modernisation area.

  • KEY RESPONSIBILITIES :

    DELIVERY LEADERSHIP :

  • Own and manage the end-to-end technical delivery lifecycle of programmes / projects.
  • Drive execution against scope, timelines, budgets, and quality gates.
  • Lead delivery governance, including sprint planning, risk reviews, release planning, and steering forums.
  • TECHNICAL OVERSIGHT AND EXECUTION :

  • Work with product leads, technical leads and architects to align delivery to enterprise standards.
  • Translate complex product and technical concepts into actionable delivery plans.
  • Validate solution designs, cloud deployment patterns, integration flows, and ensure readiness for production.
  • CROSS-TEAM COORDINATION :

  • Facilitate collaboration between Product, Dev, QA, DevOps, Infrastructure, and Security teams.
  • Remove blockers and resolve delivery-related conflicts quickly.
  • Coordinate dependencies across internal and external technical teams.
  • STAKEHOLDER ENGAGEMENT :

  • Communicate delivery progress, risks, and decisions to stakeholders and executives.
  • Align technical activities with business priorities and industry timelines.
  • OPERATIONAL READINESS :

  • Ensure appropriate monitoring, support structures, and handovers are in place post-deployment.
  • Champion technical quality and post-implementation reviews.
  • QUALIFICATIONS / KNOWLEDGE

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Commerce, Information Systems, Computer Science or equivalent experience
  • Advanced understanding of software development lifecycles (Agile / Scrum, DevOps)
  • Solid knowledge of payments products, platforms, APIs, cloud-native architectures (preferably AWS), and CI / CD
  • Familiarity with ISO 20022, Kafka, containerisation (Docker / Kubernetes), and IaaS / PaaS practices
  • High degree of technical and operational fluency, with the ability to translate complexity into strategy and action.
  • Project management or delivery certification preferred (e.g. PMP, PRINCE2, SAFe)
  • EXPERIENCE

  • 8–10 years' experience in software delivery, engineering or architecture roles, with at least 5 years in technical delivery or programme execution
  • Proven experience leading cross-functional technical delivery teams on large-scale, cloud-enabled programmes
  • Extensive experience influencing internal and external stakeholders, including senior executives and partners, with clear financial and operational impact
  • Experience solving highly complex, high-stakes problems requiring research, creative design, and strategic insight
  • Experience in regulated environments (financial services, banking, payments)
  • Hands-on involvement in modernisation or payments-related transformation programmes is a strong advantage
  • Experience with different geographical teams will be a plus
