Job summary

TECHNICAL BUYER

Our client, a Blue chip Manufacturing company based in Vanderbijlpark (Vaal Triangle), is seeking an experienced Technical Buyer with the following qualifications and responsibilities:

Requirements:
  • Grade 12 or equivalent
  • At least 5 years of extensive technical buying experience in a manufacturing or engineering industry
  • Strong technical knowledge, familiar with machines inside and out
  • Ability to be physically present during disassembly and assembly of machinery
  • Strong personality and high integrity
  • Good knowledge of suppliers and sourcing
  • Availability to work on-site during weekends if necessary
  • Reporting to the finance department
  • Ability to handle pressure without stress
Responsibilities:
  • Obtain multiple quotes for orders
  • Place orders using SAP
  • Expedite outstanding orders
  • Import raw materials as per production schedule
  • Manage inventory stock control and conduct monthly stock takes
  • Source suppliers and complete credit applications
  • Arrange transportation for subcontractors and couriers
  • Maintain minimum stock levels for certain items
  • Manage projects from purchase to delivery and implementation
  • Ensure timely delivery and cost savings without compromising quality
  • Assist with preventive maintenance planning
  • Participate in shutdown planning to ensure timely parts availability
  • Perform additional duties as required
Raw Material Purchasing:
  • Buy raw materials in line with MSDS specifications
  • Use approved suppliers only
  • Inspect stock upon arrival
  • Buy on a JIT basis
  • Liaise daily with production for material needs
  • Order in advance to ensure on-time delivery
  • Maintain minimum stock levels
Technical Buying & Breakdown Support:
  • Be present during disassembly, preferably on-site
  • Inspect units and breakdowns, possibly visiting vendors
  • Send drawings or measurements for quotes
  • Inspect units upon return to ensure standards
  • Obtain drawings for repairs and keep a parts register
  • Be present during part removal and replacement
  • Retain and dispose of old parts appropriately
  • Maintain detailed drawings for all machines
  • Keep maintenance register updated and review parts regularly
  • Maintain records of vendors to minimize waiting times
