Allan Gray was established in 1973 with the purpose of creating wealth for clients. Its retail business offers asset management services as well as investment administration services via its platform. It plays a role in managing and administering retail client assets totalling R786bn. The Retail Distribution department at Allan Gray consists of over one hundred individuals. Teams within the department are responsible for distributing Allan Gray’s unit trust funds and investment administration services to various client groups, including other retail institutions, independent financial advisers, corporate employers, and individual investors who approach Allan Gray directly.

Overview:

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Senior Business Analyst with 5+ years of experience to join our team. This role is most suited for a candidate with a background in Microsoft technologies, including Power BI (required), Snowflake (or similar) and Dynamics 365 (preferred). You will collaborate closely with both Distribution and IT teams to deliver insightful data analytics products and oversee our D365-based Distribution CRM system and data.

The successful applicant will play an important role in ensuring that the various distribution teams have access to the data driven insights necessary to effectively manage and target their distribution efforts. By overseeing the department’s D365 based CRM system, the applicant will also play an important role in ensuring the system is adopted, maintained, and continues to play a foundational role in the management of processes and client relationships into the future.

Retail Distribution includes individuals with various responsibilities and skills, with roles ranging from fully client facing to analytical. This role is well suited for someone who wants to apply their analytical skills within a business department, and in close collaboration with different business stakeholders. It is also well suited for candidates who want to operate quite closely to clients, developing their understanding of distribution, investments, and financial services while doing so. While some remote work flexibility is afforded, most of the successful candidate’s time will be spent working from Allan Gray’s head office, based in the V&A Waterfront district of Cape Town.

Key Responsibilities:

Business Analytics & Insights Delivery

• Engage with various business stakeholders to gather, analyse, and consolidate analytics requirements.
• Interpreting complex data sets into effective analytics solutions using Power BI and related tools.
• Ensure the adoption of analytics solutions by providing training and support to end-users, ensuring they deliver tangible business value and are maintained effectively

Systems Maintenance & Enhancement

• Collaborate with IT and external vendors to oversee the enhancement and maintenance of the D365-based Distribution CRM system.
• Monitor system performance, adoption and user feedback to drive continuous improvements, ensuring the system evolves in alignment with business needs.
• Act as the primary contact for D365 system

Collaboration & Stakeholder Management

• Collaborate with IT architects to leverage our strategic data platform efficiently, minimising rework and ensuring optimal outcomes for Distributions analytics solutions.
• Work closely with Distribution, IT and vendor teams to ensure that the CRM system remains securely and robustly governed.
• Provide training and support to end-users to ensure effective adoption of analytics tools and solutions

Innovation & Continuous Improvement

• Keep abreast of industry trends and emerging technologies to drive innovation in analytics products and services.
• Identify opportunities for process improvements and implement best practices in data analytics to enhance efficiency and effectiveness

Skills & Experience required:

• Relevant Bachelor’s degree.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in business analysis, with 1-2 years in a senior capacity.
• Experience with data analysis and visualisation tools; demonstrable expertise in Power BI (incl. data modelling, DAX and Power Query).
• Proficiency in SQL and experience with data integration from various sources.
• Strong analytical abilities to interpret complex data sets and translate them into actionable insights.
• Ability to understand business objectives and align analytics solutions to meet strategic goals.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
• Experience with Agile framework and tools

Preferred:

• Bachelor’s degree in information systems, data science, or study in a related field.
• Experience in the Microsoft Power Platform (Power Apps, D365).
• Understanding of data governance principles and ensuring data quality, accuracy, and security.
• Familiarity with data warehousing concepts and experience working with Snowflake to Power BI connectors
