Skills & Experience Required
- BSc / BEng / BTech / BEng Tech in Civil Engineering.
- Active registration with ECSA as a candidate engineer / technologist, with a willingness to learn and eligibility to obtain professional registration within 1-2 years (non-senior).
- Professional registration as a Pr Eng or Pr Tech Eng with ECSA (senior).
- Minimum 3-8 years’ postgraduate experience, specifically in planning and designing road projects (freeways, interchanges, arterials, collector roads, urban streets) with proficiency in Civil3D.
- Hands-on experience and knowledge of geometric design, workflows, and ability to generate roadworks designs and drawings using Civil3D.
- Computer literacy in MS Office Suite, MS Project, AutoCAD, Civil3D, and other relevant design software.
- Good knowledge of South African geometric design standards.
- Experience in the geometric design of complex road projects.
- Experience in designing stormwater and drainage infrastructure related to roads.
- Experience in technical coordination with other engineering disciplines.
- Good interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team; cooperative, collaborative, and supportive.
- Attention to detail; ability to work accurately under pressure.
- Deadline-driven with good time management skills; proactive, practical, and dedicated.
- Development of leadership skills (non-senior).
- Excellent leadership and management skills (senior).
- Valid South African driver’s license (minimum Code B) is advantageous.
Job Responsibilities
- Member of the road planning and design team on designated projects.
- Regular liaison and reporting to Lead Engineer: Geometric Design or other Responsible Persons, as per project requirements.
- Research, compile relevant data, evaluate technical and financial aspects, including cost estimates and budget quotations for Civil Engineering proposals (non-senior will assist).
- Plan and design road and stormwater projects, producing technical drawings, reports, and documents as directed.
- Conduct Feasibility Studies, Preliminary, and Detailed Design for transportation projects (supervised for non-senior).
- Review all drawings, designs, reports, and documents to ensure compliance with relevant guidelines and company quality standards.
- Prepare tender documents, including specifications, contract conditions, and schedules of quantities (non-senior will assist).
- Monitor and implement site construction work as required.
- Perform site inspections, assessments, and construction monitoring activities in accordance with quality requirements.
- Attend client and technical meetings; prepare minutes as needed.
- Ensure progression towards ECSA registration as a Professional Engineer/Technologist within 1-2 years (non-senior).
- Complete and submit monthly reports as per schedule (non-senior).
- Manage technical outputs of direct reports (senior).
- Management, supervision, mentoring, and coaching (senior).
- Participate in professional organizations for marketing and networking.
- Assist with marketing and business development initiatives (non-senior).
- Ensure compliance with the company’s Quality Management System, Business Management System, and Project Management guidelines.
- Research and prepare technical papers for publication or presentation at industry conferences.
- Maintain ongoing professional development through training, courses, seminars, or outsourced specialist training, as agreed.
