Key Output
- Technical Expert in testing and troubleshooting of Caterpillar components.
- Perform Dynamometer and Test bench performance tests on components to ensure they meet Caterpillar specifications.
- Testing, troubleshooting, and repair of Caterpillar components.
- Prepare tested components for paint and dispatch.
- Perform failure root cause analysis.
- Diagnose CAT systems quickly and efficiently, carrying out repairs.
- Compile accurate component analysis reports and address all technical issues identified.
- Control and maintain test equipment.
- Compile accurate customer machine analysis and reports, including Engine Inspection Reports (MIRs) and Technical Analysis Reports (TAs).
- Perform planned and breakdown repairs (disassemble, inspect, assemble, and test) of Caterpillar Earthmoving components to OEM standards and customer requirements.
- Ensure reusability of parts during inspection.
- Comply with company contamination control standards.
- Follow safe work practices.
- Manage own administration (labour booking, service reports, part returns, expenses, etc.).
- Maintain quality and productivity standards of work consistently and accurately (ISO Standards).
- Comply with OEM and supplier warranty systems, policies, and procedures.
Qualification, Experience, and Competencies
- Qualified in relevant trade (e.g., Diesel Mechanic / Earthmoving Equipment Mechanic) NQF 3.
- Minimum 5 years post-qualification experience on earthmoving machines (at least 4 years on Caterpillar).
- Minimum of 5 years of earthmoving equipment component rebuild, analysis, and testing (including 3 years on Caterpillar equipment).
- Minimum 2 years’ experience on Dynamometers and Hydraulic/Transmission test benches.
- Applicable fundamental product knowledge (Caterpillar).
- Caterpillar machine-specific technical knowledge and skills (Certification is an advantage).
- Technical expertise in testing and troubleshooting Caterpillar components.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Good technical report writing skills.
- Proficient in computer literacy (SIS, STW, ET) and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams).
- Effective interpersonal and communication skills.
- Basic understanding of finance and business.
- Problem-solving, analysis skills, and customer relationship management.
- Strong understanding of OEM and supplier warranty systems, policies, and procedures.
