Job description

As the Technical Accountant , you will be one of the principal contacts for complex IFRS accounting matters. You will support the Statutory reporting and Policy Advice Manager on IFRS accounting matters and in providing critical guidance, training and advice to the group.

The primary responsibility of this role is the preparation and drafting of high-quality, IFRS-compliant group financial statements, including notes and supporting schedules. This includes supporting the year-end reporting process, coordination of group inputs, application of technical accounting standards, and ensuring accuracy, consistency, and timely delivery.

In addition, this role will serve as a key interface with the external audit team, as well as support in co-ordinating the audit effort across the group to ensure an effective audit.

Principle accountabilities

1. Preparation of Group Financial Statements

· Take ownership of drafting and preparing high-quality, IFRS-compliant consolidated financial statements, including notes, disclosures, and supporting schedules, as required.

· Ensure compliance with IFRS disclosure requirements across all sections of the financial statements.

· Maintain documentation and audit trails for financial statements and reporting outputs.

· Assist with audit queries and supporting documentation for statutory reporting.

2. Coordinate with finance teams and other stakeholders to obtain required inputs and supporting documentation. Owning IFRS accounting guidelines

· Assist in preparing accounting policies and maintaining VE’s accounting manual

· Support the analysis and implementation of new IFRS accounting standards within VE and ensuring their application

· Providing IFRS and reporting training to VE’s finance organization

3. Statutory reporting

  • Support the rollout and understanding of accounting standards across operating units
  • Compile and support the delivery of regular management reports, including KPIs, dashboards/board packs, and performance summaries, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
  • Provide input to ad-hoc financial analysis to support business decisions and strategic initiatives.
  • Assist in maintaining and updating templates and processes for standardized reporting across OUs.

4. Stakeholder Collaboration

  • Support collaboration between the Central accounting teams and OU local finance teams to ensure alignment on reporting and key timelines
  • Assist in responding to inquiries from OUs and other stakeholders regarding policy guidance and escalate technical matters as needed.
  • Help prepare and distribute clear accounting and policy guidance/training

5. System and Data Management

  • Support the Group reporting team in maintaining and optimizing financial planning systems and tools.
  • Assist with data validation and ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial data by performing reconciliations and validating inputs as required.
  • Support data migration and system improvement projects as required.

6. Continuous Improvement

  • Identify opportunities to streamline financial planning and reporting processes for greater efficiency.
  • Contribute to the development of best practices in data analysis, visualization, and reporting.

Essential:

  • Chartered Accountant with articles at Big 4 Audit firm
  • 3 – 5 years relevant professional experience
  • Accountancy experience at group reporting level within a multinational organisation and/or relevant audit experience within one of the international audit firms
  • Strong and up-to-date IFRS knowledge (ideally with accountancy/audit degree)
  • Extensive internal controls knowledge and internal or external audit experience
  • Very strong analytical and communication skills
  • Proven experience in drafting and preparing IFRS-compliant consolidated financial statements, including disclosures

Desirable:

  • Experience in downstream Oil and Gas or manufacturing industries.
  • Previous hands-on consolidation experience for large group of companies
  • Exposure to end-to-end financial reporting cycles, including interaction with auditors and coordination of financial statement inputs across multiple entities
  • Familiarity with reporting tools or systems used in the preparation of statutory accounts (e.g. CaseWare, SAP, Oracle)
