About Us

Ngaanyatjarra Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara (NPY) Women's Council was founded and is still led, governed and directed by women from the NPY region. It was created to give a voice to women across 26 desert communities in Western Australia, South Australia, and the Northern Territory. Today, we continue to provide progressive, innovative and evidence-based work in service delivery, advocacy and support. At its core, NPY Women's Council is about family and community – walytja. Our purpose is to work with women, children, and their families of the Ngaanyatjarra, Pitjantjatjara, and Yankunytjatjara regions in central Australia. Our role is to work side by side and help increase their capacity to lead safe and healthy lives with improved life choices.

About the Team

The Ngangkari Program supports Ngangkari (traditional healers of Central Australia) to continue their work in communities, clinics, and hospitals, promoting and strengthening emotional and mental health and well-being. Uti Kulintjaku is an award-winning initiative of the Ngangkari Program that supports mental health understanding. Led by ngangkari and senior Anangu, Uti Kulintjaku encourages deeper conversations about mental health and healing for Anangu and people working in Aboriginal health and related services. This project involves Senior Anangu across WA, NT, and SA, bringing together Ngangkari, mental health practitioners, NPY Women's Council, and senior Anangu women with specific language and literacy skills from local communities.

About the Role
