Position Details:

  • Based in Alice Springs with travel to NPY lands

All remote travel will also accrue Travel Allowance.

ABOUT US

At its core, NPY Women's Council is about family and community – Walytja.

Our purpose is to work with women, children, and their families of the Ngaanyatjarra, Pitjantjatjara, and Yankunytjatjara regions in central Australia.

Our role is to work side by side and help increase their capacity to lead safe and healthy lives with improved life choices.

ABOUT THE TEAM

The Child and Family Wellbeing Service covers program areas including therapeutic targeted family support, Child Nutrition & Development services, advocacy, and kinship services for Anangu interfacing with child protection services across the tri-state region.

This role is to lead programs relating to child advocacy and kinship services across the NPY Region.

The Team Leader will support Child Advocacy Officers, Kinship Case Managers, and Support Workers to effectively deliver the program across remote communities in the NPY region.

ABOUT THE ROLE

You will supervise a team supporting kinship care placements and advocating for fair processes for families impacted by child removal, including upholding ATSICPP access and reunification efforts.

You will lead the team to develop and deliver strength-based, trauma-informed services that meet the needs of Anangu families in the NPY region.

This role involves working closely with communities, NPYWC Directors, members, and client families, as well as engaging with internal and external service providers and stakeholders, including report writing, submissions, and advocacy activities.

The position reports to the Child & Family Wellbeing Services Manager.

ABOUT YOU

You will have a background in Social Work, Psychology, Counselling, Community Development, or relevant experience.

This is a unique opportunity to work for an organization with a grassroots community development approach, working closely with Anangu families and communities.

You will receive comprehensive orientation, supervision, and professional development, including training in vicarious trauma, case management, and four-wheel drive operation. Critical incident debriefing and counseling services are also provided.
