Job Description

Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced and dynamic individual to coordinate and manage the Work-Integrated Learning (WIL) component of our teacher education programme, specifically focusing on the Teaching Practice aspect.

The role will involve ensuring the academic integrity, quality assurance, and regulatory compliance of the Teaching Practice activities, as well as fostering relationships with schools to facilitate successful placements for students. The WIL Coordinator will be responsible for planning, organizing, and overseeing all stages of the Teaching Practice process, from student placement through to evaluation and reporting.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Teaching Practice Placement and Administration (35%)
    Establish and maintain partnerships with schools suitable for teaching practice placements. Strategically place students in schools based on their academic level, subject specialization, and needs. Develop and manage formal agreements (MOUs) with partner schools outlining expectations. Coordinate logistics, scheduling, and risk management of placements. Maintain comprehensive records of placements and agreements.
  2. Teaching Practice Quality Assurance and Compliance (25%)
    Ensure adherence to institutional policies and compliance with relevant education regulations. Monitor the quality of the teaching practice experience through regular school visits, mentor feedback, and student reflections. Oversee the assessment and evaluation of student performance, ensuring fairness and consistency. Provide training and support to mentors to ensure they are equipped to effectively guide students.
  3. Student and Mentor Support (25%)
    Conduct pre-placement orientations for students, outlining expectations and requirements. Provide ongoing support to students throughout the teaching practice period, addressing challenges as they arise. Maintain regular communication with mentors to provide guidance and ensure effective collaboration. Facilitate feedback and debriefing sessions with students and mentors at the conclusion of placements.
  4. Reporting and Documentation (10%)
    Manage and maintain accurate records of all placements, mentor details, and assessment outcomes. Prepare and submit reports on teaching practice activities, student progress, and challenges. Analyze data to identify trends, areas for improvement, and best practices.
  5. Stakeholder Relationship Management (5%)
    Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including school principals, mentor teachers, and faculty members. Collaborate with stakeholders to enhance the quality and effectiveness of the teaching practice programme.
Requirements

Qualifications and Experience:
A relevant undergraduate qualification in education (NQF Level 7 or equivalent). A minimum of 3 years' experience in education, teacher training, or coordinating WIL programmes, preferably within a distance education context. Strong understanding of the South African education system, including the roles of regulatory bodies and relevant legislation.
