VACANCY: THE DAILY GRIND INNOVATION HUB (NPC) (REF: 6/2020)
JOB TITLE – Business Development Officer (BDO)
JOB PROFILE

The Daily Grind Innovation Hub (TDGIH), based in Kraaifontein, is a bespoke enterprise development support network that provides existing and aspiring entrepreneurs with services such as physical space, infrastructure, shared services, networking opportunities, access to specialised knowledge (technology experts), market analysis, market linkages, training in new technologies, and access to finance.

MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB
  • The BDO will ensure the successful delivery of incubation services at the Incubator, focusing on effective operation and achievement of small enterprise development goals.
  • Establish and manage relationships with public and private sector stakeholders, including public sector entities, colleges, universities, and research institutions.
  • Work closely with entrepreneurs and start-ups within the incubation programme to ensure effective incubation of innovative, technology-based ideas and growth of sustainable businesses.
  • Be prepared to work remotely when necessary, especially during lockdowns, offering innovative and digital solutions to support small businesses.
  • This is a full-time position; overtime and weekend work may be required occasionally.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
  • Identify and evaluate new markets and target clients with SMMEs/Incubatees.
  • Develop and implement strategic sales plans for SMMEs/Incubatees.
  • Promote innovative thinking and the commercialisation of ideas.
  • Identify profitable new business opportunities and assist in achieving sales targets.
  • Prepare proposals and presentations for new business opportunities.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to deliver compelling presentations to secure profitable opportunities.
  • Maintain strong relationships with existing and potential stakeholders.
  • Plan, implement, and manage projects, programs, products, and services aimed at SMMEs/Incubatees within the enterprise development portfolio.
  • Encourage SMMEs/Incubatees to adopt innovative methods.
  • Offer coaching and mentoring to SMMEs/Incubatees.
REQUIREMENTS
  • Three-year tertiary qualification in Enterprise Development, Entrepreneurship Management, or Business.
  • Proven track record in developing new businesses.
  • Strong client relationship and customer service skills.
  • Responsible, self-motivated, and able to work under pressure.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Experience in an innovation and technology-driven industry or organisation.
  • Experience assessing the viability and sustainability of small enterprises.
  • Deep understanding of the SMME and incubation industry.
  • Advanced computer literacy (MS Office and MS Projects).
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Experience in starting, owning, operating, or managing a small business.
  • Ability to network effectively to ensure a continuous pipeline of innovative ideas leading to sustainable, high-growth companies and job creation.
