Job description

Job Title: Tax Compliance Officer

Our client is seeking an experienced and qualified Tax Compliance Officer for their team in PE.

Location: Port Elizabeth

Must Have All Requirements:
  • Grade 12 with accounting as a subject
  • Tax or other relevant qualifications with a decent track record of work experience (5 years)
  • Experience in a tax environment is essential
  • Registered Tax Practitioner or eligibility to be registered
Required Computer Packages:
  • Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook Express)
  • GreatSoft
  • SARS E-Filing
  • Working knowledge of Income Tax Act and Tax Administration Act
  • Working knowledge of the SARS dispute resolution process
  • LexisNexis (a fair understanding would be advantageous)
About the Role:

This role involves supervising tax department staff, advising on tax compliance issues, assisting with tax research, processing queries, liaising with SARS, and managing work flow and quality in relation to audits, tax returns, objections, appeals, and exemptions.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Supervise tax department staff
  • Assist with complex income tax returns and provisional tax administration
  • Monitor dispute resolution processes, including drafting objections and appeals
  • Consult and advise clients on basic tax queries
  • Prepare and review complex tax calculations and returns
  • Manage SARS response communications and deadlines
  • Oversee SARS-related documentation and notifications
  • Assist compliance officers with tax return completion and administration
  • Handle GreatSoft-related tax issues and provisional tax runs
  • Ensure timely delivery of documents, returns, and payments to SARS
  • Follow up on client payments and refunds
  • Resolve disputes related to assessments and accounts
  • Assist with tax exemption applications
  • Act as SARS liaison for complex queries and visits
  • Manage tax queries for directors and monitor their progress
  • Oversee training of SAIT learners
  • Report regularly to the tax manager and ensure team compliance with policies and codes of conduct
Salary:

R30,000 - R45,000

Includes mandatory medical aid and provident fund
