Job description

We are looking for an experienced Tax Accountant:

Responsible for managing the company’s tax portfolio and ensuring compliance (i.e., tax compliance and tax accounting/reporting). Keep abreast of the latest legislative changes to identify and mitigate potential tax issues/risks. The tax manager will act as an adviser on all aspects of the company’s tax position and serve as the key contact for any tax matters.

POSITION INFO: Responsibilities:

  • Prepare annual income tax returns for all SA legal entities within the Premier Group.
  • Calculate and submit provision tax returns.
  • Perform the IT14SD reconciliation when filing the annual income tax return.
  • Manage tax year-end and half-year accounting processes for the Group, ensuring accurate calculation of income and deferred tax accounting entries, and prepare supporting schedules for disclosure in the consolidated financial statements.
  • Prepare and submit monthly VAT returns, ensuring refunds are received timely from SARS.
  • Liaise with SARS during the monthly VAT verification process.
  • Prepare, submit, and pay monthly withholding tax.
  • Prepare and submit the annual country-by-country reporting requirements for the Premier Group as a Multi-National Entity Group (i.e., Master File and Local File).
  • Monitor transfer pricing compliance quarterly for intra-group transactions to ensure profit margins are within the benchmarked range.
  • Prepare and submit annual carbon tax returns and ensure timely payment.
  • Update the annual carbon tax licenses with SARS as required.
  • Advise the business on new proposed tax legislation and assess potential impacts (e.g., Sugar beverage levy, VAT rate changes, limitations on assessed loss utilizations).
  • File and pay dividend withholding tax returns and security transfer taxes.
  • Engage with tax authorities in SADC countries to assist foreign subsidiaries in resolving audit queries.
  • Advise on local and international tax implications, providing guidance on transfer pricing methodologies for cross-border transactions.
  • Implement training to ensure accurate capture of input VAT at transactional levels.
  • Stay updated on new IFRS standards and determine their tax effects on the Group.
  • Handle monthly IFRS 16 lease accounting.
  • This role may involve some accounting functions from time to time.
  • Prepare working papers for disclosure notes in the Group Consolidated Financial Statements.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • FMCG industry experience desirable.
  • Article experience within Audit/Assurance is essential.
  • 3–5 years post-article experience within tax is essential.

  • International Tax (Withholding taxes and transfer pricing)
  • Carbon Tax Act
