Job summary

Newzroom Afrika seeks a Systems Administrator to manage on-site IT infrastructure for both on-air broadcast and corporate systems. You will ensure hardware and software operate 24/7, support PCs, servers, and networks, and liaise with vendors to maintain service levels.

The ideal candidate has 5+ years of Microsoft systems administration, strong networking and cybersecurity skills, proficiency in VMware and Cisco switches, and familiarity with Linux/OSX.

Qualifications

  • MCSE or Computer Science diploma with networking/cybersecurity focus.
  • 5+ years of Microsoft systems administration experience.
  • Strong knowledge of networking technologies (TCP/IP, DHCP, DNS).
  • Experience with VMware, Cisco switch administration, and Windows tools (WSUS, AD, SQL).
  • Knowledge of Linux and OSX environments.
  • Cybersecurity-focused and able to maintain confidentiality.

Responsibilities

  • Install, configure, support and maintain servers, PCs, laptops, and mobile devices.
  • Administer Active Directory and group policies; manage domain devices.
  • Manage Google Workspace alongside core IT tasks.
  • Provide desktop support for PC and Mac; handle networking, printers, software.
  • Apply security patches and OS updates; manage firewall.
  • Oversee PABX/VoIP and backup systems; maintain network connectivity.

Job description

Applications are invited for the above-indicated vacancy within Newzroom Afrika. The incumbent will report to the Corporate IT Manager.

Job Purpose

The Systems Administrator is the member of the IT Department who is stationed on-site and is responsible for the IT infrastructure used for the on-air broadcast and corporate systems. This individual is responsible in ensuring that IT hardware and software is maintained and functional 24x7.

Key Responsibilities
  • Installation, configuration, support and maintenance of servers, pc’s, laptops, mobile devices etc.
  • Active Directory administration e.g. creating user profiles, updating group policies, adding and removing machines from the domain, etc.
  • Google workspace administration and maintenance.
  • Desktop support for PC and Mac operating systems, including setup, networking, printer and software installations etc.
  • Security patch management including, installing anti-virus software, OS updates etc.
  • Firewall management
  • PABX and VoIP phone management
  • Maintain company backups
  • Networking administration and management, including Wi-Fi and Internet connectivity.
  • Website hosting administration
  • Compliance and updating of business policies
  • Logging support calls and documenting system changes
  • Liaising with external suppliers
  • Building of temporary networks for outside broadcasts
  • Assisting with the administration of the broadcasting system – Dalet and VizRT
  • Experience in broadcasting is beneficial.
Skills, Competencies and Requirements
  • A qualification in computer studies/Information Technology: MCSE or Computer Science diploma – Networking and cybersecurity or CCNA
  • At least 5 years of experience administrating Microsoft systems
  • Strong Knowledge of Networking technologies e.g. TCP/IP, DHCP, DNS, etc.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft products (Operating Systems as well as Windows applications/tools such as WSUS, Active Directory, SQL, etc)
  • Strong understanding of cybersecurity
  • Knowledge of Linux, OSX
  • Experience with VMware administration
  • Experience with Cisco switch administration
  • Website development and administration is beneficial
  • Friendly, dedicated and a team player

  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Approachable, and able to work with other people
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Logging and escalating calls when needed to with the appropriate vendors, then following up on the logged calls if needed

  • Confidentiality regarding the information being processed and stored
  • Own transport – mandatory
  • Ability to work shifts and put in the extra effort and time
