Job description

Job Title: Sustainable Development Manager - Mining - North West

Location: North West, South Africa

The Sustainable Development Manager will be responsible for ensuring that all mining operations in the North West region are conducted in a sustainable and environmentally responsible manner. This position will be based in North West, South Africa and will report to the Head of Sustainable Development.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Develop and implement sustainable development strategies for mining operations in the North West region
  2. Ensure compliance with all relevant environmental regulations and standards
  3. Manage relationships with stakeholders, including local communities, government agencies, and environmental organizations
  4. Conduct regular environmental impact assessments and develop mitigation strategies where necessary
  5. Identify opportunities for sustainable development initiatives and partnerships within the local community
  6. Monitor and track key performance indicators related to sustainable development goals
  7. Provide guidance and support to mining operations on the integration of sustainable practices into their daily activities
  8. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment of sustainable development initiatives with overall business objectives
  9. Prepare and deliver reports on sustainable development initiatives and progress to senior management
Qualifications and Experience:
  1. Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Sustainable Development, Mining Engineering, or Safety Management
  2. Minimum of 10 years of experience in sustainable development or environmental management, preferably in the mining industry
  3. Knowledge of South African environmental regulations and standards
  4. Experience working with stakeholders, including local communities and government agencies
  5. Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  6. Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  7. Proven track record of implementing sustainable development initiatives and driving positive change within an organization
