Job description

Position: Sustainable Development Manager

Job Description

Develops long-term sustainability strategies and ensures their successful implementation, encompassing occupational health and safety (OH&S), environment, and security. Oversees and leads the SHE Department, responsible for planning, directing, and coordinating programs and initiatives aimed at improving the company's Sustainable Development performance.

Integrates sustainability practices within the current business model by identifying external and internal trends, detecting risks and opportunities, and positioning the company as a leader in corporate governance and sustainability among industry peers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement Sustainable Development strategies and programs.
  • Monitor and evaluate the impact of these strategies on the company and its processes.
  • Identify opportunities for improvement and implement necessary changes.
  • Implement monitoring and control systems for Sustainable Development.
  • Prepare scope of work and tender specifications for activities to be tendered.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant regulations and standards.
  • Participate in litigation and resolve related issues.
  • Analyze data, produce reports, and provide recommendations.
  • Develop strategies and action plans to promote Sustainable Development.
  • Communicate with regulators, business partners, stakeholders, and industry bodies.
  • Oversee development of procedures and processes related to Sustainable Development.
  • Participate in awareness campaigns and train teams in sustainability practices.
Licence to Operate

Ensure ongoing compliance with statutory SHE requirements to maintain the mine license, including verifying compliance, advising management, and assisting with legislation implementation. Ensure thorough prevention inspections, accurate incident investigations, and proper documentation.

Department Management
  • Manage staff and performance, set standards, monitor, appraise, and provide training.
  • Manage SHE budgets, submit requirements, and report variances.
  • Provide technical leadership, ensure legal compliance, and establish SHE standards and communication strategies.
Risk and Safety Management
  • Develop risk mitigation strategies and oversee their implementation.
  • Promote a risk management culture.
  • Ensure ZERO HARM to employees and address safety audit findings.
Equipment and Systems
  • Manage systems like IsoMetrix Safety Management, ICAM surveillance, and Employee Self Service systems.
Decisions and Stakeholder Relationships

Make decisions within budget and authority limits. Maintain relationships with internal stakeholders (management, employees, partners) and external stakeholders (regulators, authorities, partners).

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Safety Management or related field, with 8-10 years' experience.
  • Training in incident investigation, risk assessment, COMSOC 1 & 2, and leadership is advantageous.
